And yet our average finish in the SEC west alone during that time is around 4th place. What's that tell you?

That building any semblance of consistency is pretty damn difficult in this league.

You can argue there are schools that are trending better than LSU in conference, and we may be mediocre for our own standards, but to compare it to the SEC or the division it simply doesn't hold water.

Except it does hold water. Look around you. The melt is real and based in reality.

Oh I'm fully aware of the melt.

My point is that it is frustration built on the backs of what Miles has done to this point. If you ignore his tenure, 9-3 seasons would damn near get you a statue at LSU. LSU is trending in the wrong direction, and blaming Miles is fine by me, but give the man credit for getting LSU to where it was in the first place. He has been mediocre lately by his OWN standards - that's it.

OK.

In the last 4 years, he has a 72.5% overall WP and a 62.5% SEC WP.

Name em then.

I am saying

Al Simmons 1894-95 5-1 .833 win%
Allen Jeardeau 1896-97 7-1 .875
Edgar Wingard 1907-08 17-3 .850
Joe Pritchard 1909 4-1 .800
Les Miles 2005-preset 112-33 .772

Hal Hunter was 1-0 as Interim HC if you want to be a count about things. Regardless good percentage for modern LSU football and that number of games.

WWI was 1914-1918 for reference.

kinda silly and disingenuous to just use the last 4 years in a thread discussing the entire career

The frick are you talking about? I'm comparing Miles to the coaches listed on the OP. So is everyone else.

I see the confusion. The OP is dogging on those 3 criteria as means of judging less as Winningest LSU coach, BC all sorts of coaches are high in those categories (NVM some of those coaches are without a doubt the best coaches in THEIR school's history).

This thread doesn't compare less to those other coaches. It is still about where he ranks in LSU's coaching history.

Is it impossible to think Miles needs to go while simultaneously giving his entire career at LSU the respect it deserves?

No, it isn't.

If you're evaluating whether or not to keep a QB who has been with you for 10 years, do you give a frick what he did in year 3?

If you're evaluating a RB?

If you're evaluating a CEO?

If you're evaluating anyfrickingthing?

Answer.

Nope.

Yes.

But, you don't make determinations on whether or not you're going to keep someone who has been with you a decade or more by evaluating their "whole career".

There is literally no walk of life where that would happen.

I think most of us agree but we're having a few different conversations at the same time.

Miles would have been fired long ago without the Chavis hire. He won with Saban's players and a Chavis defense. This is painfully obvious to anyone not sipping a Jim Jones cocktail. Anybody enamored by stats can frick off. I'll give him credit with these things. He can recruit, he is steadfast (or oblivious...Blazing Saddles governor style) to a crisis, and he is one of the luckiest son of a bitches on the planet. Unless he wins most of his remaining games, his luck will have run out.

There is only one team in the SEC West with more conference wins than LSU since 2012, and LSU is 3 conference wins clear of the 3rd place team.

This is flat out just not true... Do some research..... Last 3 years... LSU 14-10 Ole Miss 14-10 Miss St.13-11....Auburn 13-11.....
