Definitely could go Old School. The Wishbone will help protect our QB. 2 WR's, and 1 FB, and 2 RB's back behind the QB. Heck, it could open up things.

The most fun I had playing football was fullback out of the wishbone.

We're sticking to the gumbo package for now. We'll install wishbone for Rice

When it's executed right it's really hard to stop.

Could you imagine having had the wishbone ran with Fournette, Guice, and Brosette on the field together?

Barry Switzer won 3 National Championships with it. Switzer succeeded in getting the better of several famous contemporaries, including a 12–5 mark against Tom Osborne, 5–3 against Jimmy Johnson, 3–0 against Bobby Bowden, and 1–0 against Joe Paterno, Bo Schembechler, and Woody Hayes.
Under Switzer, the Sooners set an NCAA rushing record of 472 yards per game in 1971 and scored over 500 points in two different seasons, 1971 and 1986.

Nobody runs the wishbone. Football has evolved beyond it.

Now, folks do run the flexbone . . .

No actually it isn't. Why you think teams don't run it any longer? It does take a very disciplined defense though to stop it. You have to keep containment and you have to hit the QB in the mouth every play, every!

God, you aren't kidding. Nothing like catching a linebacker in the ear and hearing the breath leave their body.

I would be ejected from every game in this age of football.

With the trend toward making cut blocks illegal, it's going to be harder and harder to make that offense work.

Maybe every team I played against that ran it sucked, but we shut down every wishbone team I've gone against.

Two years ago I wanted them to run Fournette and Guice out of the same backfield. Send them different directions, let them block for each other, but make the defense contend with two top flight talents every play. Not sure how well it would have worked, but it would have been fun.

During some of those really bad offensive years (everything post Flynn that wasn't Mett I suppose) there were games where LSU had less passing yards than Georgia Tech. At that point why not just run the option?

No. We run the gumbo package for Rice. But shelvin can't play in that game.
