even if the ball was tailing(and it was), it was still going to land fair. But as pointed out, that is irrelevant if he touches it in fair terittory, which he clearly did

it was fair. really no debate. i just cant believe he didnt catch it.

Yeah that's a fair ball.
On a side note, I'm still convinced that Chris Reid's foot touched the bag on the bunt play in the 11th before the runner got there. Everyone was focused on the tag, but I think his foot got there.

it was very very close. i agree he might have snuck his foot in. but of course can't review that.

After watching multiple replays last night, I had to agree the umps got it right. I just didn't think there was indisputable video evidence. That was my only beef. Also it's the umps discretion where to place the runner. 2nd base was the right call, but Reed may have in fact made it to 3rd after Breaux kicked it.

Shouldn't have been awarded a double
Agree with overturning it as it was a fair ball but give the man 1st base and move on

no doubt. and maybe he gets thrown out. definitely kinda crazy they can just arbitrarily award a double.

Easily a fair ball. Good overturn.

That's an incriminating screen shot but it's from the same video I used for the screenshot. I'm on mobile at the moment but later I'll see if I can get a PP7-esque conspiracy video with lines drawn and shite.

Really should have been caught. No replay needed.
damn that's harsh man. it was almost amazing that he got to the ball; he's fast as hell. the problem with a ball that is almost perpendicular to your body is that it is very hard to judge exactly where it will come down. he actually overran the ball and it hit on the heel of his glove. he would probably make that catch better than 50% of the time but it just was not to be; by inches.

i'd say 99% of the time. it was pretty routine for a college outfielder. it wasnt a can of corn but not the toughest play in the world.
they actually ruled that play a hit so newman got an earned run. really awful scoring.

my question - how can you award two bases?
does that allow three bases for another runner, who is really fast

The ball was in fair territory when it touched Breaux' glove. Doesn't matter where it might have landed or what happened after it touched the glove.
Are you sure about that? I don't know but the announcers stated repeatedly that it would have to be determined where the ball would have hit if it hadn't been touched to make a ruling on fair/foul. I know they aren't always experts but they seemed pretty certain about this. Either way, though, it certainly seems that it would have hit either within a foot inside of or on the line if it hadn't been touched.

It looks like it's inconclusive so I am still surprised they ruled definitively on such a play that was originally called foul
I just can't see how you can say for sure which way it truly lands.

I just don't see how you overturn that AND award him a double if you called it foul on the field. The umpire is in perfect position.
And for those of you who don't know, the position of Breaux's body is irrelevant.
Sometimes replays work, and sometimes they don't.

They changed the call bc it was clearly fair. Also, the ball hit the heel of the glove and that pushed it away. We call that a stone glove
