Remember, Steele said he would scheme to fit the current players on the roster

For a base scheme, put the biggest possible lineup out there. If you want to stay in the 3-4 look but are facing more speed on the offensive side, replace the beefier outside guys with the fast linebackers rather than the defensive ends being suggested there.

As a base defense, the 3-4 has to be big up front. If that means defensive end playing outside linebackers, so be it.

We have a bunch of DTs and only a handful of DEs. It kind of makes sense to move some of our quicker DTs (Godchaux, Thomas, Herron) to DE and move some of our DEs who play well in space (Bower, Teuhema, Clark) to LB.

DE- Godchaux
NT- Valentine
DE- Lacouture

OLB-Teuhema
ILB- Garret
IlB- Beckwtih
OLB- Bower/Clark

CB- Tre White
CB- Robinson or TOlliver
SS- Adams
FS- Mills

That's actually a really solid lineup. Beckwith and Garret are both big dudes and Teuhema and Bower Clark both look like light DE's who could fit rush OLB's. The question there becomes if they could drop into coverage.

Another question I'd have is what can you realistically expect out of Valentine and what kind of depth if any would you have at the nose?

I don't see us full fledge switching to a 3-4. If anything I think we'll see combination fronts.

I think it is unlikely they play anywhere else at the next level, so they are going to have to figure it to sometime.

Another issue that comes up is Debo Jones. Does he fit into an OLB role in a 4-3? I think could. when i made this list i just thought "move the DE's to OLB" made a lot of sense, and i really like Teuhema. Lots of speed.

You have to think maybe Mickey Johnson or Gilmore. They aren't huge guys, but they could do as subs.

Herron and Bain ad backup DEs

I think he real issue of depth is at ILB in that we have none at all. You could work in lamar lewis as a backup, and Maybe even Debo in lighter sets.

Its fun to think about. we oddly ended up with the personnel to run a really solid first string, but i know we won't be changing, and I am not too upset about that.

I think LSU will mostly run a 4-3 next year. The original 11 guys listed look good(assuming Valentine is a player and since he has no snaps to this point, who knows). However guys like Debo, Louis, Riley, Fiest, and Garrett are either ILBs or Ss in a 3-4 because of their weight. LSU's DEs would all be OLBs in a 3-4.

However they may be able to use 3-4 schemes every once in awhile next year in standard downs( not mustang like we are all used to seeing in obvious passing downs). Beckwith would be a good OLB in a 3-4. Adams and/ or Thomas not bad at nickel in a 3-3 deal with one of them blitzing.

If the plan is to move to a 3-4 in time, they need to start recruiting different LBs, DTs and DEs.
