Does anyone know the story behind the LSU band playing this song after football games? I’m proud that they have a gospel tune in the repertoire, and it was awesome to hear it in Neyland after the win!

I opened this thinking it was going to be something about coming to an agreement on planing neck.

Also I think it’s the bands alma mater. I wouldn’t know why tho

We always stay until after the band plays it and sings the alma mater.

We used to play this as a warmup song in high school marching band. Of course that probably has a lot to do with the fact that our band director was in the GBFTL.

We always stay in the stadium until after the band finishes it.

I think this is just sort of a band tradition to do something like this after games. I was in the McNeese band for a year and we played You'll Never Walk Alone after every game. It sounds pretty similar to what LSU plays.

I was a member of the TGFTL in 1988 as a Freshman. That was the first year it started as a tradition when director Frank Wickes wanted a final song to play before leaving the stadium.

Not sure but I think a couple of HBCUs play it too.

90% of fans didn't even know they played this because they already left

We never played it. This is a tradition that I was not aware of. Thanks for the info, goodgrin.

Nor did we. We repeated the half-time show music, then played the Alma Mater. (But the team didn't come back out for it)

Just me, but I'm not a fan of the Bread Song. Many of us TB Alums call it "Stale Bread"; it loses the effect if you play it after every fricking game. To each his own........

Chills, indeed!
Thanks for the link. I had heard it a few times. Didn't know they played it every game. Great tradition.

So I guess playing the alma mater before and after each game is stale, playing pregame at the end of the 3rd quarter each game is stale, etc. Only a few people are around when it's played and it's barely a minute long, but all I ever hear is people talk about how pretty it sounds. But like you said, to each his own...

Kind of like some, if not, most people with adult brains feel about that trashy “neck” song.

Maybe you should get the student section to sing obscene lyrics to it, then administration will ban it!
