re: Les Lets the OC Run the Offense

Our offense suck because Jennings has no anticipation of when a receiver will be open. In his defense, he is young. If you recall, last season Mett talked about how QBs in Cam's system have to throw the receiver open. Unfortunately, Jennings can't do that. Mett could make all the throws...slants, digs, outs, back shoulder fades, comebacks, post-corners, posts. Cam and Les are trying their best to hide the QB by using the running game. Cam definitely needs to get Harris up to speed during the Spring.
This guy get it.
Cam's offense requires a NFL caliber QB. That is to say someone who can make all the throws, can make all the reads, and can throw with anticipation. Unfortunately Jennings can do none of those things right now and just doesn't have arm to make the throws. Harris has the physical ability, but doesn't make the reads or throw with anticipation yet. Until Cam gets Harris, or another QB that can make the throws, up to speed on the mental aspect of his offense they are going to struggle.
This is the downside of having a NFL OC who doesn't have players that can effectively run his system and, at this point, it's pretty obvious Cam isn't going to adjust his system to fit the players he has. He's just going to do his best to mask the defeciencies of whatever position is weak, which is QB right now.

Let us not forget the short side option.

SlowFlowPro handed you your arse. You are too big of a pumper.

If he's paying Cam $1.7M he doesn't want to have to provide oversight on too much. That dollar level combined w Cameron's pedigree equals autonomy with minimal oversight

So i actually went back and watched a Crowton game.
And it was nothing like what we have run the last for years.
Well, there are similarities. Then, we would call 3 consecutive bubble screens on each drive. Today, toss dive.

2011 was a blessing but a curse in terms of offense. and we've basically run that same style since.
I agree. We had an insane amount of turnovers, great special teams, and a Heisman finalist on defense. Because of that, momentum was bound to swing our way in almost every game. You just can't replace that. You have to adapt.

The toss dive is coming from somewhere
It's part of the 2007 offense. Flynn and Hester ran it to near perfection.

What i have learned this week is people get something in their head and there is no shaking it out.
Les handcuffed Jimbo against Auburn in 06 and we never threw the ball: threw 37 times and ran it 23
Les has run this same Big Ten offense Since 2008: the offense is different, Crowton ran a shite ton of pistol and a shite ton of shotgun. Way more than under center. And furthermore, i twas different than Jimbo's offense.
People have a narrative in their head, and don't ever want to remember anything different.

man if you have never seen les with a play chart you are watching someone else. except the last few games since the heat has been on he always had a chart in his hand.who the crap are you watching. Also I don't make any difference if les is calling the plays or cam. les hand picked this guy Cameron. he is from the old school like les Michigan wher you run 3 yards and a cloud of dust . they both think the same way that's why he don't have to have a chart he knows cam is gonna call the same old crap he likes , nothing !!

The bottom line is that, no matter what style or scheme of offense you run, you will only be as good or efficient as the QB. Some QB's can be taught to run multiple styles but those guys, (RP for example) are few and far between. Smart coaches play the style that best suits their personnel and that is the single most frustrating aspect of Miles/Cameron. They played pro-style last season with an NFL QB and NFL receivers and running backs and surprise, surprise they had great success. They should have run more of a zone-read, play-action offense this year, given the QB's they were left with and have chosen not to do so. Therefore, offensive struggles abound. Surprised?

Whether Les handcuffed Jimbo in the earlier '06 games or whether it was of his own accord, the O shifted to pass-first after the UF game.
Looking strictly at post-game run/pass ratios doesn't tell the full story of how an O approaches play-calling.

Which shows we were essentially "balanced" in the AU game until we had to pass in the last 2 minutes.
I don't think it's disputed that the '06 O shifted to pass-first after the UF game.
