This is the exact truth. Which means, IMO, Les Miles in his lust to keep the NFL machine oiled, has to coach "not to lose" (which while we're winning 10 or so games a year, explains why a lot of Tiger games of the recent past are neither pretty nor fun to watch). Can Tiger fans remember when LSU games were almost always fun to watch? Even under Les Miles, before the new early departure pattern had fully set in, LSU games had been fun to watch. And stadium clear-outs by fans hadn't become a noticeable problem.

Again IMO, there is a big difference between teams where the bulk of skilled players stay the course for most or all of their eligibility, and fight for championships, and those which are continually in a deficit mode (no matter how good recruiting may be) due to the emerging pattern of large numbers of skilled team leadership absenting themselves early for the NFL.

Despite what some may say here, or want to believe, this early migration to the NFL is not the norm on every team, and IMO, not on championship teams.

There is also a big difference between the coaching "not to lose" philosophy and the coaching to win philosophy.

So is there a lesson to be learned? Maybe.

I realize we're talking LSU football, and the following is about soccer, but the recently-sacked Manchester United soccer coach, David Moyes, was critiqued for just this style...
quote:

Changed United's attacking style and mentality. United's philosophy under Fergie was always to go out and attack the opposition. Fergie did not worry too much about the negating the opposition's strengths because he knew his side were better. Moyes did not continue this and United under him lacked confidence and conviction. United under him seemed content to try and contain teams. His approach was too conservative and smacked of a manager out of his depth.

You sound like you'd be happier as a Bammer. You should do it. You'd fit right in with the rest of the rather extensive sidewalk portion of the LSU fanbase.

LSU games are just fun enough for me, thanks.

Fallacy.
According to Stat Milk, LSU's avg MOV was 14pts- included 24pts Ws over BCS#18 and and 14pts over BCS#2.
Players not executing isn't in the gameplan, it just happens.

The biggest dump on Les by posters like you was development of players. Well you can't have it both ways. Either he can't develop them, or we stick by what he and frank have created in our recruitment. Play early, go to NFL. Your gripe should be with the NFL, media and fans, not Les. Les is trying to shape these young men and give them the opportunity they came here for. To move on to the NFL and make a better life for their family. He doesn't set the age limit, he didnt set the value of an NFL contract, that everyone on this board would take at 19-21 years old.

it's also true that them leaving early hurts the program

You are a negative D-bag who is also dumb as dirt.

Would you rather not have NFL possible players coming to LSU because some leave early?

Having them come to LSU helps a lot more than their leaving early hurts, D-bag.

Not in my lifetime. We stunk. And even before les we won a whopping 10 games once and got our asses handed to us by the likes of UF every year. Throw in Uab, embarrassing losses to arky, va tech, bama, utenn and ut. Oh and to top it all off, Iowa.

The comments in this thread are a prime example of why this board has turned into a shite show...

Someone makes a thread compliments on CLM's ability of sending players to the nfl and it takes a total of 5 posts for someone to act like a douchebag

fricking retard. You had dissent among players. If they actually played for the patch on their jersey instead of worrying about what they did under furgie, man u would still be playing in Europe. Moyes was in over his head, no doubt. But people like Giggs should have stood behind him instead of talking shite waiting for him to be sacked. The players wanted moyes out.

The players love Les. This is not anywhere comparable. Please don't ever use a man u reference with LSU. If anything they are Closer to Arsenal. Uber talented, but not always the most talented in own division. Stubborn coach at times, but brought club to new heights. Still trying to work magic the final few years.

I think we have turned a corner here. I did not see any LesQuotes from the interviews he did today. He was asked a lot about the SEC players and the Tigers. He came off very knowledgable and personable - like somebody a recruit would want to play for.

I also was pleased that the CBS Sports people sucked up to him in those interviews. I am sure they interviewed a lot of coaches but Les did himself and the Tigers well.

Agreed. I recall when avg MOV was in the red.

Maybe those games were fun to watch in GA, but they really sucked in Tigerland
