Should have saved it.
Why show your hand when you do not have to....

IMO
Should have saved it until such day as it was really needed.

Running the fake occasionally when you really don't have to makes opponents hedge their return schemes and thus improves coverage on punts.

This is true, but not a case of giving credit where it is due.

There were plenty of reasons possible, that's just not one of them.

And I really don't think future opponents are going to base their punt returns on watching film of our second half bowl game beat down of GT with a 35 point lead.

Posted this yesterday.

The players worked on the play for weeks, and its not like they had many if any chances to run it in the first half.. did we even punt ?

Not like you can save the play for the next game either...

the guys worked hard on it, let them run it and have fun doing it.

I say.. not a thing wrong with it.

Yep, until sometime in the near future when we have that deed done to us and everyone calls out our opponent for doing it.

I've always believed if we can run a play and you cant stop it and vice versa, well, that's on YOU....these arent little kids who cant take it.

and yes, i felt this way in the 90's when Spurrier was runnin it up on us.

why get your panties in a wad....

it is dumb to use up a trick play and disclose it when you are leading 35 to 3.

that is great stuff. why not fake punt. football is about having fun! especially when you have a safe lead and you'll be out of it for several months.

sorry...may be for fun for you....but...

it is about winning not fun and it does not make sense to disclose trick plays that you do not need to, before they are needed.

the more they are seen, the less likely they will work in the future.

well you have a point.

i wonder if a fake punt/fg/surprise onside kick has every been attempted in consecutive possessions.. i would really love to see this because the second time would actually be more a surprise than the first.

everybody knows Les will go for it on 4th downs be it a straight up play or a fake punt/fg. Not like its anything new for the other teams to game plan against us.

I was really hoping we would fake the kneeldown at the end of the game and sent Trindon down the sideline for a game-ending bomb for a TD. That would have been sweet.

so we'll run from the other side next time...do you REALLY think its that big a deal? Do you really believe an opponent will work on the fake punt formation we ran in the Chick fil A bowl?

Just a reminder, more than one fake punt play is available in the playbook and most of the time these plays are situational...this one was not exactly situational, but if a future opponent wants to waste valuable prep time gettin' ready to see THIS play again, then more power to em!!!
