I would bet Brown took 15 snaps that game, and looked good doing it. I cant imagine they would ever run out of the wildcat more than that with Pennington playing well. No one has cold stopped it yet.

So what you are saying is that we would run the exact same fake punt against, say, Bama next year when we are down by 3 on our own 45 mid 4th qtr. Different return scheme, different scenario, different freaking everything. Fakes are not ever run when you NEED them, they are run to keep your foot on the throttle when you DO NOT NEED them.

there is no one blinder than he who refuses to see.

you are not even close to what I have said..it may be a convenient version for you though...

here is the point again....
the more people see ANY play, specially a trick play, the less likely it is that it will work.
whether you have 5 or 50 in your arsenal, it does not affect this point.

the more people see ANY play, specially a trick play, the less likely it is that it will work.

it is just a matter of "probability"
therefore, why show it if you do not have to.

How many bowls in a row have we run a fake punt? Maybe it's tradition now....kind of like the hat, ya know?

I would argue this is less about having a fake play that works, than forcing teams next year to play HONEST on punts when you are NOT going to fake it.

They have more to think about when they would rather just set up a return, or run a punt block scheme.

It's the 95% of plays where you WON'T run a fake that you benefit from by having run the fake when you didn't really have to.

It affects the point 100 percent. Trick plays are based on individual opponent tendencies, and are tweaked in alignment and execution based on the team you are playing. That is why when coaches are interviewed, they always reference "we put it in this week, or we worked hard all week on it" when referencing trick plays.

Your post would indicate that you believe we have a multitude of 'trick' plays that we have written on the back of Crowton's playcard, just waiting to pull em out....this is not so.

so if your coaching your team you prep them for THIS fake punt play?

Im coaching against you and i call a fake punt that looks exactly like the fake punt you prepared for.....you feel good about it, your players feel good about it...they see it coming!!! then, OH-OH....its so NOT the same fake punt....in fact, ironically enough, because YOU prepared YOUR team for THE Chick fil A fake punt, it allowed MY DIFFERENT fake punt from the same formation with the same personnel to work...good job!

I see kickoff and punt returns in every game and they still work and they know when you are going to do this

Not a huge thing to me, but I don't like that reasoning. One, i would like to use that play for the first time at a meaningful time. Two, not the level of sportsmanship I like to see. I don't believe that you stop trying to score but I see no need to call trick plays (I am fine with the deep throws).
