Something about last night tells me that Saban's coaching staff went to him suggesting the change at QB. Granted he has final authority on the matter.
There wax a fight in the locker room at halftime.

That offensive line was loaded with talent. That wasn't the problem. They were set up to fail based on gameplan.

Hence, you put ZM in to start the 2nd half. It's what we saw last night. As soon as Bama came out 2nd half, the whole complexity of the game changed. Even with a lead, Georgia was pressing and it showed. And the offense putting up points gave the defense a little motivation too.

Last night is EXACTLY what LSU should have done on 1/9/12.

The comparison is really kind of absurd at this point. The gameplan vs Alabama on 1/9/12 was complete garbage. Jarrett Lee was shellshocked during the 9 to 6 game and didn't see the field the rest of the season because of an off the field issue. He would have done the same during the Jan 9th game. Mettenberger was not prepared at all for that spotlight.

At least we used to have to worry about what happened in title games. It'll be a long time before we have to worry about that again.

Statues don’t beat Saban! I think LSU was the last pro style team to beat Bama. 7 freaking years ago. Let that sink in.

But Tua didn’t have a 4 year career track record of shitting the bed vs UGA

Lee has like a 1-11 TD:INT ratio vs Bama.

At least les miles can never have a podcast or show his face on tv ever again since saban changed quarterbacks and miles didn’t.

Miles can be interviewed on live radio because this is America and all freedoms can’t be taken away

Jefferson did not move the ball at all. To say Lee could not have done at least that poor is nonsense
We did not move the ball in Tuscaloosa either, until very, very late. Their defense eventually wore down.

The BCS championship was painful as hell to watch, but you're not remembering it correctly. Alabama was moving the ball, but not getting TDs. At one point they had 5 scoring drives... and it was 15-0.
That's still striking distance, and I assume Miles' biggest hope was to not make a fatal mistake that blew the game open, and eventually make some plays late for a chance to win.

Lee's previous experience that year against Bama was throwing picks. Les chose not to play him and risk that again.
Mett wasn't ready the following season, he constantly got blown up from the blind side while standing like a statue. He would have been killed by Bama that game.

Miles probably understood his chances were slim, but felt his best chance was with Jefferson. It just wasn't good enough.

Some had Tua as the best QB in last years class. Yes I wanted to give Lee a shot or perhaps even Mett in that game, but doubtful LSU would have won. The defense was hanging but not creating short fields or T/O's and frankly the ST's which had dominated all season were beaten by Bama. Not comparable to the situation Monday night. Saban knew what he had in Tua and sadly Les knew what he had in Lee and Mett.

LSU not crossing the 50 yard line in the game on 1-9-12 is a myth. Below is from the ESPN Play-by-Play from the 1-9-2012 game. Please note that LSU (Jefferson) rushed to the Alabama 32 yard line. It did not change the outcome of the game.

Gee....the 32 yard line......I don't recall that you get any points for that....

Everyone saying Lee would have shat himself is forgetting how efficient he was both coming off the bench in 2010 and starting in 2011. He actually had one of the longest streaks without an INT in school history.

He was not the same QB that he was in 2008, and once we were down two possessions we needed to trust him to just get in the gun with Randle, Beckham, Landry, Ware, and Wright as 5 really good options.

Jefferson was awful and had 50 yards passing the previous game in the SEC championship. It's astonishing he didn't have a back up plan with a month to think about it regardless of whoever he decided to put in.

Les is a players’ coach. He has to manage personalities. He needs team leaders as proxies. JJ was an extremely strong leader, and Miles needed him as an instrument of control.

Saban doesn’t need shite. Those players are completely subservient to his will. He runs his team like a dictator, with freedom of control that Les Miles never had because of his management style.

According to a certain source, (someone associated with the escort officers that night) who overheard a conversation Les and Stud had with Russell and T-Bob who asked Les if Lee was going to play that night, Les informed them they'd best be concerned with whether they were going to play or not. Les then turned to Stud and told him if Lee plays then Stud would be looking for another job the next season. I did not get this directly from the source, I got it from a high school football coach who was friend with this source. I don't know if that actually transpired or not, but it would explain a few things. When LSU came out the tunnel that night, half the players didn't appear excited about playing.

Actually, the whole premise of this thread is incorrect.

Les Miles started Lee in that season, played him, and in the biggest game of the year (a game we understood to be for the title AT THE TIME), Lee couldn't do the job. Les pulled him for Jefferson, and JJ got the win.

compare to

Saban started Hurts this season, and in the biggest game of the year, against Georgia, Hurts couldn't do the job, so Saban pulled him in favor of Tua, who got the win.

Those talking about our bowl game: well, let's have Bama and Georgia play again in a week or so, same exact teams, and see what happens. Let's see if Georgia is now better prepared for Tua, and holds Bama down. If Saban switches back to Hurts in the rematch, then you can say Saban did what Les refused to do. If Saban chooses to stay with Tua, then he's doing the exact same thing as Miles.
