Was this just because of the new QB and question marks at other positions?

I hated it by the way....I get it but I hated the heck out of it.

Used to dis Spurrier for running up the score. I'd gladly love to have poured it on the Canes last night and any future opponents we have in a similar position. We've never adopted that style of play. Time to change IMO.

We aren’t going to show other teams our hand unless we have to. It was a strategic decision.

Isn’t there another thread with Burrow saying he wanted to be conservative? We won dude.

It was the right call.

That Miami D is opportunistic. No need to tempt fate. The W was all that mattered and was well in hand.

Ask Joe Burrow....

quote:

Burrow: “I just tried to play a little more conservative. Their front 7 is really good. I didn’t want to take too many chances because I knew how good our defense was. I didn’t want to throw any interceptions. We wanted to keep that turnover chain in the box.”

Id probably take his word for it over yours. He may know a bit about gameplans and playbooks than you do.

I hated it too, but I see value in it.

We were comfortably up and it looked like the coaches really wanted to get Burrow's first start and W behind everyone. Why risk a turnover or pick 6 unnecessarily?

It didn't really make for sexy football, but it was safe football.

We should have kept our foot on the gas so that players could get solid reps which the young guys severely need.

No I liked the conservative approach. Miami feeds off turnovers and their was no need to take unnecessary risk.

Exactly. We were up 30 pts. No reason to pass all over the place. We don't play in the Big 12

Get the damn W which half this board didn't think we had a chance to do... O being the shrimp boat captain and all.

The ONLY way Miami gets back into the game is turnovers. 23 point 4th quarter comebacks are not unheard of. Especially in these 1st games. Momentum changes and look the frick out. Ask A&M about UCLA last year.

Get the W.

Bad assessment. Had the lead. Subs were giving up points. Turnovers could have been disastrous. A+ on playing conservative when the defense was playing lights out.

This reasoning is the worst.

See this is how I know you're a petulant bitch. I didn't say anything about the playbook or scheming.

I just said keep scoring....doing the same things we were doing in the first half.....nothing fancy.

You act like we were able to move the ball at will. That's not accurate.

Yep. Gotta keep the secret playbook a secret.

I just hated the predictably of the offense. Only so much u can do in 2TE sets. We could have run the ball a ton out of 3Wr shotgun sets and killed a bunch of clock and still been effective running the ball.

Forcing a few defenders out of the box does wonders for the running game.

You are to young to remember the game in Tiger Stadium where we were comfortably ahead of Auburn and kept throwing interceptions. We lost that game and that coach took a severe bashing from the fans and national media. They wanted the win and they knew that they shouldn't help the other team. Smart football is what it is called.

It’s not one or the other. You can run the offense without going into a shell. Don’t have to run high risk plays.

And you don’t have to shut the O down before halftime.

On first down or on several second and short-medium yard plays, would have been nice to take a couple shots down field instead of just running Brosette into a wall and punting.
