Those new evacuation orders were issued after concern that the Beaver Dam at Pebble Creek could breach. All residents were ordered to evacuate the area, asking that they go to A.C. Flora High School.

"Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life," wrote the National Weather Service's Columbia office in an alert sent to the area Wednesday morning.

Overnight Tuesday, engineers were confident they'd be able to contain the dam, but by Wednesday morning, it was clear that would no longer be possible, Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Chris Cowan told NBC News. Engineers still hope they can redirect the water if there is a dam break, but urged all residents to leave the area anyway.

There is no way in hell they should even be considering bringing an additional 75,000 people or what ever it will be into that town right now. One thing goes wrong and they will get torched by the media for letting it happen.

disappointing that government leadership (haley) didn't step in and say "no way is a football game happening while this is going on"

For what it's worth, the damn is about 17 miles northeast of William-Brice. Not sure if campus or stadium is in watershed area.

How long are they going to wait to make the decision to move this game? It is now Wednesday morning. I realize they do not want to give up a home game but there are much more important issues to deal with in Columbia now than trying to host a football game. Regardless, my prayers go out to all those affected by the flooding.

But the game pulls resources from the natural disaster.

That's the issue and that's on Nikki Haley. But I'll give her the benefit of doubt and assume at this point South Carolina has the resources to attend to the full scope of he potential natural disaster and the game.

you have leadership in place that get paid to make tough, thought out decisions. having a full blown SEC football gameday in columbia would be insanely stupid, dangerous, and a PR nightmare.

Well the real issue here is not the stadium, or even it's immediate surroundings, it's whether the city has enough resources to sustain 50-100kk extra people coming into town for a "meaningless" football game. We all know the cluster frick that is Baton Rouge on game day, imagine flooding in all of the surrounding areas and trying to manage that shitshow.
