To me, 1/9/12 happened for obvious reasons, but I also look at it as a blessing in disguise you could say. I’m sure I’m not the only one here who holds that belief or way of looking at it all.

The magnitude of what happened this season will continue to set in for probably years to come as people and the media will regularly refer back to it. You also can’t ignore the glaring swagger this team carried in which will never be replicated. Even our fricking highlight videos were Hollywood worthy. If you’re in the group of people who believe the 2019 LSU Tigers are the best college football of all time, it took 150 years for that to finally occur. Just think about that.

I think it was worth it.

Forever grateful for Les. but yes. We are not 2019 champs if we win in 2011.

You could argue that through the SEC CG vs Georgia in 2011, that LSU team was the greatest of all time. And then couldn't finish the deal.

So because of it, the leash for Les got shortened considerably and led to 2019.

So the greatest team that never was led to the greatest team that was.

Looking back, I think it was a blessing in disguise. No one would have had the stones to end the Miles era with the way we were trending had he won another natty. From 2012-16, we were stuck in quicksand as a program, but it made everyone realize we needed real change to be elite again. Kudos to the administration and the fans for not settling (even though everyone thought we did with the O hire).

1/9/12 represented an era of LSU football that was fools gold. When Saban left, Miles inherited an insane amount of talent, coupled with an insane football atmosphere. The first half of Les’s career, he wasted a 2005, 2006 and almost 2007 roster. In that time frame, he should’ve gotten 2 titles but luckily walked away with 1. 2011 wouldn’t have happened unless Saban was there. No other coach would’ve beaten us at the end of the year but Saban. Saying that, Saban changed CFB and it took a few years for other schools to catch up. Les could have closed that gap much sooner but changing his offense but he refused to change. That is what held LSU back because the offense wasn’t bad, it was awful and because it was awful, the roster couldn’t compete with elite programs.
1/9/12 had to happen for LSU to finally get angry enough to not only fire Les but also Alleva and get rid of F King Alexander. That whole “leadership” was a black cloud over LSU that choked the life out of our program. Les stagnated our football program while Alleva and King destroyed the moral of the fan base. 2019 had to happen to breathe life in to the football program and fan base. For the first time in a long time, LSU football, it’s leadership and the fans are finally united and now we can compete w the elites.

I’m curious about whatever it is that you’re drinking that could lead you to connect the BCS game debacle and the 2019 season.

1/9/12 had nothing to do with this season.. nothing.

For me personally, the rewarding of Alabama for losing their division, confirmed what I had come to believe after Cam was allowed to play in 2010, the "sport" has been compromised and it's just about the money generated. Nothing is more important than the revenue, not amateurism, not player health, nothing.

That said I enjoyed last season and will continue to reflect on it for years.

And if and when O falls to 7-5 I want him fired like all good LSU fans.

This is meaningless. The two teams that are considered better than the 2019 Tigers are 2001 Miami and 1995 Nebraska. And reflections on those teams has not kept them on top of the football world. In fact, those seasons augured the end of those dynasties.

And HELL NO! Had we won on 1/9/12 we would have completed just as good a season as 2019 was. And maybe we would have held off Saban for a few more years in recruiting. Instead of Saban having 5 nattys at Bama, and LSU having 10 last decade, LSU might have had two (definitely one) and Bama might have had three. We would never have heard the words "Bama dynasty" uttered. There would not have existed an 8 game Bama streak. In fact, we would have been discussing a three game LSU streak over Bama and how Saban can't get the LSU monkey off his back.

Defensively maybe but the 2011 offense was nowhere close

I don’t think we achieve 2019 without the 1-9-12.

Les would have coached as long as he wanted if he won that game.

The Will Wade situation was worth it last year too.

WORTH IT????????????????

HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That set our program back 8 years. Yes we got rid of Leslie but without it he may have joined the 21st century eventually. NOTHING I REPEAT NOTHING was worth the mental abuse I suffered that night and the psychological damage it did to our team and our fanbase.

The fact that LSU could have gone 2-3vs 0-5 vs Alabama afterward is tough to deal with.

On 1/9/12, Les ran the exact same offense he did against Bama during the season- it's almost as if Saban knew that and was so ready to stop it! Les Miles wasted one of the best defenses in the history of college football that season- I still despise that man for that shite show of an ofense he ran in that game. That game was Les Miles' Stalingrad defeat- he was never the same again and what began a slow but steady decline for the program.
But again, I agree, had we won, sentiment would be high for a coach that had 2 championships, Les would still be here today, but I bet we never see a championship again. Sometimes it may take time, but things work out for the best...it certainly did for the Tigers!

Anyone who thinks the 2012 BCSCG was a blessing in disguise for LSU is a fricking moron.

It's that simple.

If you think that the 2012 BCSCG was a "blessing in disguise" or "was worth it" for LSU, then you are a fricking moron.

I think 1/13/19 still would have happened, in a different way perhaps.

However, despite 1/9/12, I really think that everything would have changed had we hung on and beat Bama in '12 reg. season. Remember we won our final three games after that and had a shot at going to Atlanta and then the NC game, where we probably would have beaten Notre Dame.

Who knows what would have happened after that? Recruiting might have changed, Miles may have hired different coaches, including an offensive guy, and we may have had better QBs sign after Mett left.

So I think the dynamics/space-time continuum would have been different more if we had beaten Bama in 2012 reg. season.

Now to really blow people's minds, imagine if pilot Lewis Benscotter had caught the altitude/loss of oxygen problem in his private plane and saved both himself and......Bo Rein in January, 1980?.....
