Didn’t he go undefeated in midweek games in his last season? Genuine question, why do you say he didn’t take midweek games seriously?

No he didnt.

I am sure he does treat them like that withe the guys in the lineup, but lets not pretend he puts the best pitchers on the mound for most midweek games. Also, the reason he has fared well in midweek games so far is because of his pitching depth that he recruited and got out of the portal. Mainieri didnt have the portal and while he recruited some great top line pitchers, never recruited as much depth there

My admittedly faulty seems to be that PM lost out on a lot of higher end draft picks. You can put that down to an error in recruiting strategy but he wasn't just coasting.

I tried to tell so many people that Mainieri was not an elite coach, but I constantly got downvoted for it. JJ is showing us that we wasted a lot of talented players for almost a decade with one ring to show for it.

Who would you consider elite coaches over the past decade?

Mascona would tell him he doesn’t know what he is talking about and midweek games don’t matter.

It’s nice having serious people coaching now.

Let’s be honest. LSU rarely had the pitching needed to win a midweek game where the offense only scored four runs. It wasn’t simply an issue of not taking games seriously. There were many late game comebacks where Mainieri’s teams never quit. It’s interesting how some people forget that. I guess that’s what happens when people stop watching a game when we are losing in the 4th inning.

Mainieri had the third highest winning percentage in SEC history behind Bertman and Tanner. So what were all the elite coaches doing while Mainieri was winning?

Taking the game seriously (the process) is not the same as winning (the result).

Ok. So again, what makes you think he didn’t take them seriously?

That is exactly right. Every game should be played to win, that way when your number is called, you know the expectation's.

He always looked confused in the dugout, mishandled lineups and pitching, etc.

CPM mailed it in after 09 and only continued to win because LSU recruits itself. He kinda sucked.

You disliking his facial expressions does not mean he was confused.

I loved how CJJ sent Ack out there to finish off SLU in the bottom of the 9th. He wasn't f'ing around, just crushed their hopes.
