Only if WRs and DBs could play QB, OL, or DL

Last five recruiting rankings: #6, #2, #8, #3, #8
This mess isn't completely due to a lack of talent, but you have to be objective as well.

You guys put too much stock in recruiting rankings.
Maybe so, but until classes get drafted, it's the best way to compare talent level across different programs.

Regardless, those last five classes don't rank as high when you remove players who have left the program.
Sure, but the ranking surely doesn't fall below the Mississippi States, Syracuses and Troys of college football. And LSU isnt the only school that has transfers or players leave early for the draft.

Bingo
Also you have to discount classes that don't have top QBs, and are loaded at one position (DB).
Having six great safety prospects and six great CB prospects is not as good as having two or three great prospects at various positions scattered across the roster.

Now, take those same recruiting classes and remove the players who transferred, injured and left for NFL.
You do it for all the teams. Or is LSU the only school with transfers, injuries, suspenions and early entries into the NFL?
What about 12? 22 scholarship players missing by the UF game. Did they give up? frick no. That team was in the race to win the west til the end.

I'm willing to bet that if you took the last 5 recruiting classes, removed all the players from those classes that have transferred or left for the NFL, and re-ranked all teams, LSU would still be in the top 10 in terms of current talent on the roster.

Being objective means realizing those issues happen everywhere and are no excuse for the dumpster fire currently burning at LSU. O is a failure. Making excuses for his failure is ridiculous.

While it is true that this team is lacking line depth on both sides, the questions need to answered. What happened to the ones that are missing? Some are injured, but what happened to the ones that are suspended or transferred? Why, all of a sudden, did this happen? They might not have been stars or all Americans, but they were experienced and would have contributed. Would this have taken place under a more qualified coach? These guys were part of the highly ranked classes and are suddenly gone. This happened under O's watch. It's his shite show.

quote:Agreed, but not near the extent that has plagued this team. How many teams of LSU's caliber run out of DL and can't substitute in the 2nd game of the season due to injuries and penalties?

No matter how you attempt excuse this sudden degradation, it has to rest with the CEO to fix it now.

So O doesn't get any of the blame for the mass exodus this offseason from both lines?

We've had well over a dozen attrition losses from those classes, probably closer to 20 - I mean we lost 5 OL in a single year. WRs, QBs transferring, defense linemen we've had to kick off the team.
On paper, those recruiting classes look like we should be competing for division/conference titles - in reality - we barely have a 2-deep OL to even suit up. For 22 positions - we have freshmen on the 2-deep at almost every one - a significant number true freshmen.

Sounds like nothing but an excuse to me. Every program in the country has to effectively manage attrition. LSU can't use "a lack of talent" as an excuse for the butt kicking they received from Moo State and Troy. They absolutely have enough existing talent to win these games. Coaching is what lost these games.

Worst o line and wr corps since the 90s.

What WRs and QBs have we kicked off the team? I know Tyron Johnson, Diarse, and Quinn transferred. Scott and Harris transferred. Maybe I'm blanking, but I don't recall any QB or WR being kicked off the team.

I cut the thought off - I'm fixing it.
WRs, QBs transferring, DL we've had to kick off the team - that was what I meant.

all college teams have to deal with attrition, via graduation, injuries, suspensions, academics, transfer, or NFL.
This is no secret.
