Lane Kiffin's Age and Experience

I don't know if we've talked about it in the myriad of threads since Kiffin was hired by LSU but Lane is 51 years old.
When Saban was hired at LSU in 2000 he was 49 years old.
Saban left us at the end of the 2004-2005 season for Miami and returned to Alabama for the 2007-2008 season.
He was 56 years old when he started building his dynasty at Bama.
I say all this because I firmly believe that the life experiences that Lane has gone through since his early days as an assistant at USC then to the Raiders, Vols, Trojans, Bama, FAU, and Ole Miss have prepared him for this job and he is still younger than Saban was when Saban went into the dumpster fire that Bama was at the time.
If Lane commits to being at LSU for the long term (10+ years) he could build a dynasty similar to what Saban had at Bama.... Now obviously NIL and the changing landscape has made it different but if he can somehow get to 3 national titles, I'd say that it would be comparable to what Saban did in a different era.
I don't want to get myself too excited, but this hire could end up being the greatest hire in LSU history (maybe Saban is still bigger because of how he awoke the program)...
If I came to you in 1996 and told you , 30 years from now, LSU will have won 3 national titles (IN FOOTBALL) and played for another with 3 different coaches, and also had hired the winningest coach in Notre Dame history, but their best coach was yet to come... It would blow your mind.
If i told you they would have 5 SEC championships with 2 runner ups...

And the best was still yet to come???

Two titles at LSU would get Kiffin a statue I believe. He'd be the only one to have won more than one at LSU.

He did 10 years of coaching rehab to get the benefit of last season and earn this opportunity. I think we get his best until he wins one. After that, hopefully Saban or Mrs Terry can keep him focused on doing it all over again, and again.

If lane wasn’t a nepo baby/prodigy no one would question him as one of the best coaches currently and wouldn’t have for some time.
Getting the Raiders job at 32, a shite show situation, insane owner, and just not ready.
then Tenn and USC. People forgot how heavily sanctioned USC was and they still haven’t recovered.
But look at his career just after that. OC at Alabama at 39. Brings that team into modern era of offense. Sets up all their future runs and the best job he can get because of his reputation is FAU.
Wins 26 games in 3 years at FAU. Only full time coach in FAU history with a winning record. He won 12 games his first year taking over a 3-9 team.
And then he gets a B-C TIER SEC job offer and just has their best winning percentage of any coach since the 1960s.
I think Kiffin feels like he’s deserved this oppertunity his whole life and hasn’t really gotten it. He is arrogant and wants to prove that he’s right about himself.

There's a fine line between confidence and cockiness. He was cocky in the past and it hurt him. He definitely feels confident he has advantages with evaluations, offensive system, match ups, and now resources here.
It should be a fun ride with lots of upside.

In your analogy, Saban’s 2023 year at LSU with regular season record of 11-1 are roughly equivalent to Kiffin year at Ole Miss going 11-1. The order of NFL HC experiences without success is obviously jumbled and it may be hard for folks to consider that LSU was a stepping stone job (to the NFL) back then,.
Where the analogy probably breaks down the most is the job performance of the ADs after the coach left. Bertman brought in an upcoming coach with successful HC experience that was able to maintain the success with appearances in the title game 3 seasons and 7 seasons after Saban left. Time will tell how the IOle Miss AD performed in their coaching choice for a replacement but doesn’t have the pedigree of success in the role at a previous major program.

This is definitely the best version of Kiffin. We should all be excited. We should all be excited about the potential. He could build something truly special here and thats what we all wanted with Saban.

I hope lane kills it here, but if he does I think he’ll jump to the NFL again in 5 years or so.
