Shimpf wouldn't be a better SS than Lemahieu. So, if anything, it would go back to the way it was.
Schimpf is the hardest working player on the team, IMO. I think he could make the switch to SS just as easily as LeMahieu did to 2nd. That would allow us to move Landry into LF and have an insanely good outfield. Schimpf is too good of an infielder and Landry is too good of a hitter (right now) for us to be able to have Nola batting. I think it could be a very intriguing move, albeit probably too late in the season to experiment with unless we get a sizable lead in one of the games this weekend.

Our focus has been on inserting Landry for Nola against righties, but Mainieri threw out a completely different possibility.
Landry for Ochinko against righties. Schimpf at 1st.
Got to admit this really shocks me.

Landry’s recent mini-surge has given Mainieri cause to re-think his options, especially involving Landry and right-hand hitting Sean Ochinko.
Since missing the Auburn series three weeks ago with a sore hamstring, Ochinko has scuffled. He has batted a pedestrian .320 (8 for 25) since then with only four RBIs. Ochinko’s RBI struggles are deeper-seeded.
The junior first baseman/catcher chased in 27 runs in the first 13 games of the season, but only 17 since then. Over that 40-game stretch, Ochinko has one RBI in seven games and has gone without an RBI in 24.
“This is when I really want to step up and start driving in big runs,” said Ochinko, who is second on the team with a .341 average. “My swing is still there, but I need to get back to the basics and stop rushing things and take better swings.”
While Ochinko searches, he may wind up in a multi-layered platoon with Landry.
Against left-handers — LSU will face two southpaw starters against Mississippi State — Ochinko will remain in the lineup at first base.
When foes trot out a right-hander, Landry might get some starts in left field with Ryan Schimpf moving into the infield at first base.

yeah, i was trying to figure that article out, are the numbers wrong, is Ochinko really hitting .320 during that stretch and they want to take him out? Because it doesn't sound all that bad to me.

I think the numbers are right. .320 is slumping, I guess.
This move really baffles me.

I agree, his avg seems great to me. But the article is stressing his RBI numbers, which have really slumped.

I think Landry just got a big head at the beginning of the year with all the hype with the early homeruns. It was a great move by PM to bench him. Now I think he is back down to earth.
Do yall remember how many outstanding catches Landry made at the end of last year to help us? Last year we knew he couldn't hit but his defense kept in there. If he could atleast stop being lazy in the outfield, I think we could really use him down the stretch.

Make the change soon or there may not be an Omaha! Landry helped us get there last year and has hit good college pitching and has regional and series experience. Nola hasn't been able to hit SEC pitching and has been given his chance!
we've been playing pretty well with Nola at SS. Nola isn't in the lineup for his bat, he just has to be adequate. He has shown a lot with his glove.

define "good college pitching"
Landry has has many more opportunities than Nola. I agree Landry should split time, but you are taking it overboard.

Landry is indeed on fire. I'm sure he will keep it up. Good luck tonight Tigers!!!

make Nola look bad? he hasnt hit all year man
He has now. I guess this isn't an issue now for all those worrying about keeping Nola in for just D.

its the idiots who go through the stats sheet and only look at batting average, fail to watch the at-bats, and see who is working the counts, and how hard they hit the ball in their at bats.

Why don't we let PM coach the team? We have a lot of coaches on the Rant.

I'd say he's pretty hot, especially after that solo shot.

I agree....except following with a 4 pitch strikeout swinging at a ball in the dirt wasn't the best he could've given us.
But when he makes contact he's looking good

Since Landry pinch hit last Sunday, he has had 11 at bats. He is 8 for 10 with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and a walk. I think 5 RBI's and maybe 3 runs.
