I can't imagine that any member of the U.S. military gives two shits about changing one word in the national anthem according to the environment.
Really? Are you by chance a member of the U.S. military? If not, I hardly think you should be a spokesperson for them.

They have been singing "Home of the Braves" at Turner Field for decades.
tulane says "home of the wave"
it is pretty stupid, and it has nothing to do with being respectful or not IMO
kinda like 2 bits....it was dumb, and we tried to steal it from UF, but that was besides the point. it was just stupid

so if you are not in the military you cannot be a spokesperson from you if you think it is okay to yell tigers at the end, BUT you can be a spokesperson for the military if you don't think it should be yelled???

and this explains why you have never been in the military.
If you aren't thinking about your country during the national anthem you have misplaced priorities...

No, but I figure that they are generally rational people who would recognize the absurdity of being offended by the change of one word in the national anthem to suit the occasion.

If you think a national anthem is what really matters in this country, then you're the one with misplaced priorities, my friend.

They don't come more patriotic than me and I don't find anything wrong with it.
Posted on 9/15/08 at 4:53 pm to Hideo Nomo
maybe you should have thought that members of the military hold things like the national anthem to mean more to them. And that things of that level of importance should not be changed to "suit an occasion" as you put it.

Not a spokesperson, never claimed to be. Both my sons are U.S. Marines and very proud of it. One is currently serving in Iraq and the other is with the Marine Air Wing in Cherry Point, NC, helping keep your arse safe.

Page 1 of this thread, a poster said he was former military but had no problems with it, FWIW.

good for him. That doesnt change the fact that many do find it disrespectful.

No, but it changes the idea that military people automatically are hyper-sensitive about a word.

AFTER the anthem, then we are indeed "home of the Tigers" and yell and support our team, but please respect our country and anthem by leaving "Tigers" out of it.
people that think it's disrepectful need to lighten up, need to be able to distinguish between intended humor and unpatriotic conotation

I am veteran also, and it doesn't bother me.

BINGO.

I've always gotten annoyed at the poppers during the song though. For one, they are popped at the wrong time. Two, they drown out the song. Three, they seem like some cheap attempt at entertainment.
I dont get those feelings about changing the last word of the song to Tigers.
