That was a popular sentiment back on 10/1/62.

There are far more devastating things in history than the South fighting the North (ie Holocaust, 20+ million Russians dying in WWI. Stalin.).

None more devastating to the American south.

What about Southern slaveholders' aggression towards black slaves?

I heard that southerners treated the slaves VERY good and that the slaves liked being owned, bred like cattle, torn away from their families, etc. It was the northerners brainwashing them and telling them they deserved to be free.

Based upon his posts, there's a reasonable chance TheUnknownKnight will be in attendance. Until now,I didn't know what the reference to "knight" meant...

Good question:

Ask these as well and you may see a pattern:

What about the Northerners still having slaves at the time of the war?

LINK

Why didn't we fight to free the slaves in the rest of the new world, where far more slaves were?

What about proportionally higher freed black slave owners to white slave owners? (28% of freed blacks owned slaved compared to 1.4% of whites)

LINK

Why didn't we go into Africa during the war to stop slavery if it was the main concern? Why don't we stop the slave trade now if our current country is partially founded on the idea of there being no slavery?

Why did the US have Irish slaves?

Answer: Maybe because slavery and race were not the driving issues of the war.

I have faith that this thread will turn back around to discussions of LSU football. Or Ole Miss football for that matter since we play them this week.

Agreed. Most people in general are ignorant as hell but claim to know everything and look/stupid in the process. Take most of the people on this board as proof. Why does everyone get so angry when Southerners fly their flag or even when the Klan marches but black hate groups and race riot leaders are worshipped for doing their part to help "civil rights"? Treat them equally because they are the exact same.

I wouldn't go that far. The Southerners didn't treat the slaves very well as you proclaim. Some treated them like animals, while other did treat them well, like part of the family. But overall, the slaves were treated better than people believe, but now days, would seem cruel. I'm not saying slavery was good, it wasn't. The slaves did deserve freedom. But what is commonly said is nothing more than proof that the winners define history. If the South did win, there would be a different story to the whole war. Slavery would have ended sooner or later. In fact, Jefferson Davis was an abolitionist. Lincoln wasn't. With technology now days, slavery is unnecessary (well, technically you could say we still have slavery because we treat computers and robots as slaves).

Stevan Ridley should get more carries. Russell Shepard should throw a pass this week. Fire Gary Crowton, etc. etc.

Statistically speaking, then, aren't you probably ignorant as hell?

The "CSA" was nothing but a bunch of traitors who decided to start an illegal insurrection against the great United States of America.

They got their asses handed to them.

I don't see CBS putting up an image of the KKK. They will most likely ignore it, probably not even mention it. Its kind of like if someone runs on to the field. They want attention but they won't give it to them.

But it won't end well. There will probably be a few fights.

They are the media, and they love this crap. If the klan marches this will be broadcasted.

And if they come, I'd say there will be many fights with Klansmen. Out of all the predominantly white towns in America, the klan is least welcomed in Oxford since they can destroy all the progress we have made in a single day.

I lived in China for a few months and yes, they are everywhere in Buddhist temples. But the Nazis screwed that symbol up.

What is a shame is that Ole Miss is allowing this. I know the KKK has the right to assemble and protest, but lets imagine the ramifications if Ole Miss was to say no. The KKK would probably sue the school, but with how much a school the size of Ole Miss, I'm sure they would not mind paying a fine. I mean, what else could they do? Close the school down? No. And lets say they lose their white supremacist fanbase. Who Cares? I am sure everyone in America (including Ole Miss fans) would like to see someone to stand up to this.

If Ole Miss did say no, they could have the Klansmen arrested if they protest without permission. I have been to D.C. during unscheduled protest. They can arrest people for disturbing the peace and meeting on private grounds (kind of like trespassing but not really since it is an open campus). They could also see this as providing clear and present danger because some of us can realistically see something happening like a fight.

I would rather see Ole Miss say no to a hate group then say "we love the First Amendment THIS much"

Are you really this fricking stupid? You really think Ole Miss is like "Well you'll destroy this school in the process, but we'll allow you to have free speech on our campus even when we didn't allow our students to have free speech with Slow Dixie".

Your quote:

OK I thought about it. Are you refering to Matt Flynn? OR Jarmarcus Russell?

Neither. I'm referring to J. Lee and J. Jefferson.

Also, I'm reviving this thread in a few minutes, since that thread went out of control and by the time I checked for it, I discovered my posts (including this one to you) didn't make it to the board). So, perhaps it could serve as a good exchange by Ranters such as yourself. It's worth a try...
