What's sad is what he is doing to that animal to keep him alive. Making a dog take chemo and shite. That has to be one of the most miserable animals on the planet rn. The dog's instinct will continue to fight, but it wasn't meant to be like this.

Tell me you know nothing about the topic without saying you know nothing.

My pit mix had lymphoma and went through two separate rounds of chemo. He may have felt bad right after, but for the rest of the week he was really good. First round took six weeks and he got a good 7 months of life out of it afterwards. When it came back he went through a shorter round of chemo that gave him another good 4 months. When the end came, it came very fast - like one day from getting sick to saying goodbye.

All in all, I think it was worth it for him and us. But that being said, I don't know if it's for everyone. Our vet said over and over that she felt Duke really had a "lust to live", and that's why he did so well. I can easily see a situation where another pet doesn't have that same will to live, or is old (Duke was 10yo at the time), or is suffering from other problems or degenerative side-effects that dramatically reduce the quality of life.

So, in the end (and like so many other things in life), the choices one has to make with a pet in that situation are individual and variable. Find a vet you trust to act in your pet's best interest, and then make informed decisions.

That's what we did, and I think we did right by our beloved furbaby. I'd be willing to bet that's what Herbstreit did as well. So maybe reserve judgement unless (and until) you know better.

your anecdote doesn’t mean you know more than him, or how the dog feels, yes, the dog tries to fight and be with his family but they’re suffering like hell and prolonging that agony for the human’s precious feelings is tantamount to animal cruelty

I hope the LSU crowd attending game day can show some love for Ben and Kirk.

Sad to hear we won't get to meet or see Ben for Game Day Saturday. Kirk just posted his cancer had spread so much they had to put him down this morning.

Sad day.

Mike can eat around the cancer.

ETA: Now I see Ben died. I sort of feel bad now.

So, you row the same boat as him then, I guess?

FTR, I would never subject a pet I love to intentional misery and pain, and you're a complete a-hole for even insinuating that. What I actually said was to find a vet that has your pet's best interests at heart and make an informed decision. That's exactly what we did.

I can assure you that the last 10 months of Duke's life were some of the best he lived during his short time walking this earth. And when it was time, it was time. Nuff said about that.

So why not take your sanctimonious, holier-than-thou bullshite somewhere else and pander to a crowd that actually thinks you're right. And take that other numbnuts with you.

I think we've all had that one dog that has meant so much to us and will hold that special spot in our hearts. For Kirk it was Ben. For me it was a chocolate lab we called Annabelle and a black lab we found on the road one night when I was a young kid...Black Mac.

Rest in Peace Ben...

This really sucks I was looking forward to see what LSU did for his credentials this week. Hope LSU does something awesome for Ben to be remembered here for Kirk. Dedicate something that the vet school for him or at Mike’s tiger enclosure. Something classy for his first game day with no Ben.

Bump…I know LSU is aware of Ben’s passing. I hope they step up and honor him in some small way. That pup was very well known around the country.
How many pooches have had the red carpet rolled out for them in major college football stadiums?

LSU fans should chip in and get Kirk a new pup. That would be a kind gesture. Let’s make it happen!
