Think back to October 12, 2018. LSU had just lost a hard fought game to Florida on the road, and people were still not sure about how this whole thing with Ed Orgeron was going to go.

On the other hand, Georgia was 6-0, after finishing the season in 2017 with an absolutely heartbreaking loss to Alabama in the National Championship game after having won the SEC in Kirby Smart's second season.

Georgia was continuing lights out recruiting as well. Kirby was the big name, and many believed it was only a matter of time before he surpassed Nick Saban to put Georgia at the top of the football world, maybe even in 2018.

Then, we met on October 13, 2018. In two meetings against Kirby Smart, Ed Orgeron's teams have outscored them 73-26 and have really completely dominated that team from start to finish. LSU has been far more impressive against Georgia than Alabama, who escaped in the 2017 title game and also last year's SEC title game.

That was just 14 months ago.

I think there is a lesson in humility in there if we will only pay attention.

UGA 2018 is probably one of the more unexpected beat downs I can remember.

Smart has recruited top athletes the last three years, especially linemen. Yet LSU dominated both sides of the ball. They have recruited top rated running backs, but when Swift was injured, it was used as an excuse for the embarrassing loss.

I didn't realize Swift played on defense as well.

I don't want to rain on this parade and I'm a huge O supporter BUT let's pump the brakes on this angle a bit and see how the next couple seasons go without a fricking machine at QB and two other machines at WR for LSU.

Getting a QB and a guy to install a modern offense to fit him is all this program needed. Let's hope they can continue to do that going forward.

If burrow went down, or LSU stuck to the same Ensminger/cam offense, we wouldn't have even had the chance to play UGA.

I remember lots of "Kirby is building a death star over there" type comments. We all pretty much agreed, myself included.

But now we've put on up their tailpipe twice in 2 years.

A) all that talent has to translate; the best coaches get the most out of that talent
B) talent is absolutely required. But getting it is only half the battle.

Both games were essentially won with our defense. In two games UGA has 27 total points. There are no brakes to pump.

It was unexpected but the game was a bit more competitive than the final score

I actually remember it differently. Holyfield ran it down our throat for most of the first quarter but they didn’t score (remember the fake). After that we completely dominated. We kicked five FGs and as I recall at least three of them were from inside the 10. We should have put up at least another 8 points or more.

That 2018 Georgia game was without a doubt LSU's turning point under Orgeron.

It was when I knew LSU football was back on the map.

Kirby is a cross between Goober & Opey.

Think about it—he let Fields walk to keep Fromm.

Talking heads said if he doesn’t give up the old pro-style, try to run it down your throat offense, he won’t make it long-term.

Not impressed with Kirby’s in game coaching. Better than Miles but not by much.
