After the past 16 years I'm just ready to have a coach that isn't a buffoon.

I welcome a coach with no LSU or Louisiana ties.

Y’all need to learn to stay off Wiki. Didn’t they teach you that in college?

Riley makes $6.2M.

Same…all the moaning about Jay Johnson and wondering if he can recruit the south since he’s a west coast guy…how’s that going? Lol

this is not a requirement for the job.

Agreed.

Mulkey was a great hire in terms of prestige (though I will always question the logic of paying that much to a WBB coach that will NEVER produce a ROI)

I think people are using a bit of revisionist history to call the Johnson hire a "home run" hire. During the long search his name was not one anyone here desperately wanted or touted as the "must get" candidate. For many, it was a "settle" hire.

The landscape of CFB has changed. We've seen year after year teams with prestige and the willingness to spend big money eventually hire guys that fail to meet the expectations of their fanbases.

Texas hires Sarkisian; Auburn hire Harsin; Tennessee hires Heupel, after hiring Pruitt, after hiring Butch Jones. LSU hires Ed Orgeron.

Now, I have no doubt Woodward won't just settle for the lazy hire like Alleva often did. But LSU isn't the only school willing to pay big money to a HC. And for some of the current candidates listed it may be just as beneficial to use LSU to leverage a big raise at their current school rather than to come in and take over here.

Unfortunately that is the only thing rantards will argue as an insignificant factor.

They will completely overlook...
quote:

Oklahoma pays him extremely well. I know he's gone 0-3 in his CFP appearances but I haven't heard anyone up there wanting him gone.

They think we can just open the checkbook and any coach will leave their current situation to come here. If that was the case, we wouldn't be in the situation we are currently in with Orgeron, Peetz, & Jones...

How many coaches said no for us to end up here?

I like both of the hires, but how do you know he knocked it out of the park when neither coach has had even one season under their belt?

I question that because he is not from here and is not "one of us"

It's on wiki:

But when you go to footnote 1 you find this:

So it looks like his base salary is $6.5 million per year.

I can see Riley coming for $7 million a year plus incentives.

Yep, with all the Title IX crud, LSU should go out and hire a misogynistic, racist, homophobe. Great Idea! That will surely get us favor with the NCAA. Sorry that's just not a good idea. Let's see, Gruden could hire Freeze as his O coordinator & Jeremy Pruitt as his D Coordinator! That will solve all of our NCAA problems!

Eh. He's recruited really well, never wins in the playoffs, and always loses at least a game in a much easier conference. No way he makes it in the SEC.

LSU is too WOKE to hire Gruden

You guys just can’t get off this woke BS. Yea, Tate is into CRT. Big friggin whoop.

NOBODY is hiring Gruden. That’s the way it is, that’s the way it would have been 30 years ago, and that’s the way it should be.

You're not going to pry someone like Lincoln Riley away to LSU without more motivation that just money, because Oklahoma or any other comparable school can match the money.

Are you suggesting Woodward should tell the head coach who he can or can’t hire ?
