The official’s explanation on the tush push is as infuriating as the play itself.
Too big a play? Basically admitted he let the environment influence his call.

Yeah that’s outrageous and I’m glad he called it out.
Interesting he said this was a first time ref and had trouble communicating with him the way he has with others in the past. REC doing work
He sounded better than I thought he would.
The comment that he sees every SEC game on the schedule this year as a toss up was interesting. I agree, but it’s just refreshing to hear a coach talk so plainly about the reality of what we’re looking at.
I understand his view of the analytics on the 4th and 1 but I still disagree with the call. There has to be some aspect of feel in the moment and everything about the way the game had played out said go for it imo.
You can end the game. Period. Even if you miss you still had a chance to stop them. Yeah the field is shorter and maybe the percentage for TD vs FG goes up but again you can still stop them.
As another poster said I would feel better about going for it and losing than I did the way it played out. Hope he reconsiders that in the future.
Like that he defended Sam’s play. One bad throw and just a crazy mistake that ended up not costing us much. Other than those two plays he was lights out.
Also like that he said he needs to call more plays to Harris. Dude is our best WR and it’s not really close imo.
Need these next two bad.
Back to back 11 ams, just perfect lol.

Modern analytics have their place and can be useful, but they can't fully replicate each unique situation. I'm sure he regrets not going with his gut instinct and MO.

Removing the purple/gold glasses...we were clearly offsides.

One has nothing to do with the other. No call was made and no whistle blown.

I agree with everything you said.
I will continue to stand by this. The defense was showing they could keep them out of the end zone at this point, but Kentucky was moving the ball. There was too much time left to expect this defense to prevent them from driving. They were going to have 4 downs every first down to get into field goal range. That's just asking too much of this defense IMO. Someone said it's not like they had Tom Brady. You don't need Tom Brady in college to move the ball with 4 downs.
I would much rather try to get 1 yard than expect the defense to hold them out of FG range. Put yourself in their shoes. I would be super nervous if a team was going for it to end the game with only needing 1 yard. I would much rather get the possession with that much time left only needing a FG to tie.
I thought he came out great. I really regret the fumble he had, but I know he was trying to put the game on his back.
Absolutely.

Well they were both missed calls on the same play so there is a connection

quote:Kiffin relying on pure analytics is laughable. He blew the call that could have secured the win and essentially admitted as much on his Sunday presser call.

Kentucky's center was in the neutral zone as well. I agree with the poster who says the play needs to be banned in both college & NFL. It's too difficult to officiate properly.

Liked the question by Glen West about the possibility of them going for 2 with the TD in the first overtime. I had thought about this too. Lane explained their reasoning, and I get it, but it's also fair to say that you knew exactly what was coming on the next possession if UK was to score a TD, because they did it just last week. Defense was questionable at that point in the game, and you knew it. On the surface kicking the XP is obvious but you have to think about where you're at in that situation. Lane's explanation basically mirrored his thoughts on the 4th down call, which is that he's playing strictly by the numbers and not taking the feel of the game into account. IDK, maybe it just feels to me that if you go for 2 after that score, you still have at least some control over your own destiny.
I wish someone would've asked about them having 16 seconds left in the game with a timeout (if you don't burn it trying to ice the shitty UK kicker) and them electing to just take a knee instead of trying for a play to get you into FG range. You would've had time. Going into OT there was always going to be death.

Analytics have ruined sports

They had to go 50 yards just to get in fg range, with no timeouts. It was the right call...unfortunately Baker nullified the decision because he went prevent.
