vs what? kicking off without a tee? GTFO with that
go watch 50 games and go back and tell us how many went out of bounds. Hell, they can be HS games if you want. wont matter. the field is 50 yards wide hoss.

Was it domangue (SP?) maybe that kicked the ball out of bounds in the 2014 game before bama last drive to send game to overtime? Not sure if we had a kicker named domangue but its in my head now.

Yes. I was a punter for my HS and kicked off multiple times in JV. I did not get close to the end zone, but I also did not kick it out of bounds.

shite high school fields can be difficult to make the cleanest of contact on, but that doesn’t explain kicking at this level.
My son had 42 touchbacks in 61 kickoffs this year, as a sophomore, and I know he was surprised more than few times by dips or indentions in the field that he couldn’t see walking off his steps.

It always feels like it happens when we take some momentum.

If that was my only job on the team, I would make damn sure I could kick straight. Literally that’s all Dibert’s job is. He’s our only recruited scholarship kicker.
In many cases the coaches WANT the kicker to angle the kick to one side of the field. The thought being that if the returner fields the ball on or outside the hashes one side it is easier for the kicking team to cover it because the returner is pinned somewhat closer to the sideline. In essence, the KO team can condense to cover half the field. If you KO down the middle the coverage has to remain spread out to cover the full width of the field...which could create running lanes.
Of course, the better approach is to just kick the ball into the damn endzone.

I have heard on Charles Hanagriff's show several times that in the Les years the goal was not a touchback, the kickers were instructed to aim for the box defined by the goal line, the 5 yard line, the outer hash, and the sideline. Hanagriff has railed about what a waste of Cameron Gamble's leg that was.

My son took on kicking duties in his senior year of HS, and with zero training, had zero go out of bounds. And they scored a lot, so there were a LOT of kickoffs. And, until the wear of playing a lot of snaps on defensive line took their toll, almost all were touchbacks. Right down the pipe. So don’t tell me we can’t find someone that can’t do the same.

Gamble could’ve kicked out the end zone but Les and BDP were making him coffin corner it
Posted on 12/1/22 at 5:58 pm to S
Because Les and BDP were/are idiots.

Not for someone that plays at the highest level of college football and all he has to do is Kick and practice Kicking everyday of his life for the last 10years. It’s hard to bowl a strike, but not for someone who bowls every freaking day. Getting a kicker to kick a ball into the end zone 70% of the time should not be hard, to kick it between the sidelines should be a given.
