Arden Key

Sophomore year a beast

Junior year half assed it all year

NFL career is going to be a bust.

That's actually a pretty impressive reduction in body fat and only losing 6 pounds of weight in 6 weeks, possibly less since the third pic says he was dehydrated. Means he converted a lot of fat to muscle. Just wish he had been this motivated prior to the 2017 season.

I’ve had a distinct impression for some time that this young man just doesn’t want to play football anymore. Call it a burnout, trying to live up to others expectations, whatever.

The knee excuse doesn't hold up though, 3 cone is harder on them than straight line running.

If you listen to his press conference at the combine, he said he held out because he hadn't trained long enough on the technique for the 40. He said it wasn't because of injuries. It was kind of weird. He said the only injury he had in college was his shoulder, yet the reason we got for his missing games at the end of the year last season was his knee.

Is there a link to this or you got special sauce?

That's what Key said during his combine press conference

good grief - technique? Spend a few days working on starting from the blocks - that's all you need.

Other than that -- run fast.

He has the frame to add some muscle, which is good.

there's a lot more to it than that. If there wasn't, guys like Tyrann Mathieu wouldn't train for months on their 40 techniques

probably, but if he was smart, money should have been a motivating factor in the last 12 months when he was fricking off. Key could have been a top 10 pick, and now he's become a risky pick and possibly played, eaten, and behaved himself out of the first round. I'm with some other people in here and have stated it in the past, I don't think Key really wants it

When he runs the 40, teams will likely just look at his first 10.

no, there really isn't. If an elite athlete can't figure out how to explode off the starting block by working on it all day, every day, for a few days, then something is very wrong.

It ain't rocket science, people.

when you're talking about improving your time by hundredths of a second, yes, there really is. Most of these guys are not former track athletes. And even for track athletes, how you start is completely different since you're not starting out of blocks. And your start is everything in the 40

right, so spend a few days with a coach practicing your start out of the blocks.

Do it a few hundred times. If that's not enough, then god help you.

That must be why the best athletes spend months at training facilities with coaches dedicated to this one event.

Makes total sense. It must just be easy to pick up in a few days.

I just don't think he wanted to run the 40 because he knows he is not going to show a very fast time. His verticle jump and broad jump results are very similar to guys who are much heavier than him and who run the 40 around the 4.9 range. For his size that would be a terrible time in the 40. Just doesn't show much explosiveness or quick twitch in those two events so wouldn't expect him to be explosive out of the blocks and through the 40.

Much faster track at LSU historically as well.

He needs the 40 though. His speed is his best asset.
