Are people really trying to say that an 8-time NFL pro-bowler won't know how to teach kids proper technique? .........
I know look at that first page of rejects responses, mindblowing. This would be a homefukinrun........hire

Some of you saying that his name alone would help with recruiting need to realize that the high school kids he we be recruiting likely don't know who he is. I bet if you asked the top OL recruits in La this year who Kevin Mawae is, maybe 10% would actually know.
Yea, after talking to the recruits they will know he was a pro bowler, but its not as if these kids grew up watching him play and idolize him.

I understand that. I know what he brings to the table as a player and a representative to LSU.
Are we signing him up to play or coach?

No. People are saying that it isn't a sure thing. If there's a guy out there interested in the job with a proven track record of success coaching offensive line in the NFL or college that is interested, would you still want to hire Mawae? There's a solid chance he could be a great hire, but we just don't know.

quote:The magic Johnson's and Michael Jordan's of the world had a unique skill set that cannot be taught. Barry Sanders would not necessarily be a great rb coach either, because you cannot teach natural ability. Offensive line play is more about technique than ability.
The reason that magic johnson, and countless other sports stars, failed as a coach is due to the fact that he couldn't teach the game effectively

track records does not mean sure thing either.

I like it. CLM is heavily involved there anyway. Recruiting is about relating. He's currently relevant, he'd be good at least.

A good track record of success is more of a sure thing than no track record at all.

It's no risk at all to hire him. A real risk is hiring Oline coaches in college that don't know what they are talking about.
Mawae should be on list, but behind any applicant with Oline NFL coaching experience.

What Kevin Mawae would have on ANY other coach that may be hired is he knows the STRENGTHS and WEAKNESSES of LSU O line RIGHT NOW. By being around the program for the past year. That is one advangtage he has. IMO he would be a GREAT hire for LSU.

The question is are Miles and Cameron willing to take that chance?
I have the feeling they've been grooming him for this position ever since he started studying film for them.

Exactly. So the Mawae "slam Dunkers" need to pull their pants back up.

Again, it's not just his simple ability that will help him recruit players. The guy was the players rep for the Entire nfl. He's obviously really good at negotiating and selling ideas to his constituents. Do you honestly think having THIS dude coming into a recruits house and sitting/talking with kid and family wouldn't create an amazing impression?

Well, who exactly do you recommend then? If he was successful he wouldn't be looking for a job.

What I've been saying literally the entire time.
