Coach O was just saying yesterday on the radio how he'd love to get Mawae back to LSU at some point.
And what’s keeping O from doing that?

Mawae is a natural leader...period. Lead the NFLPA, be a captain on 3 different teams in his career, now dedicated himself as a coach. We’ve not heard the last of this great HOFer.

He already has an offensive line coach going into only his second season? I’m not a smart man but maybe that’s it.

Its not fantasy football. There has to be an opening. And O has only been HC a little while. Maybe he thinks Mawae could use some more experience. Maybe he thought Mawae would stick in the NFL. There are a million reasons why it hasn't worked out yet, but likely will in the future. It doesn't always mean coach O hates a guy because he hasn't hired him yet. I know he's got a much better chance of coming back with O than Les Miles, who seemed to mostly hire old coaching buddies and yes men. But the timing has to be right for LSu and Mawae.

I think he'll be the online coach after Cregg. I'm pretty sure that he lives around here in the off season. I've run into him and his wife a few times around town in the past few years.

I think so too, with the outside chance that Herm Edwards gets another NFL gig and he either goes with him to the NFL or replaces him at ASU.

how good of a recruiter is he?

I'm not really sure. He's a HOF olineman with a big personality. I'm sure HS kids will be impressed with him.

very true. that might be the reason O hasn't pulled the trigger on getting him. just my two cents

Do you think that if Herm Edwards gets another job ASU is going to replace him with an analyst on his staff?
I’m not sure who needs to hear this but Kevin Mawae is not the o line coach at Arizona State he is an analyst for them.

Kevin is absolutely capable of SUCCESSFULLY coaching at LSU now. The argument against is not valid anymore.
I am not saying he will not be successful all signs seem to indicate that he will be but he is not even a full time position coach and has never been a position coach. Other than him being a former tiger great and now in the hall of fame why do you think he is absolutely capable of success at LSU right now.

Those players look like middle schoolers next to him

he could really be an asset to our football program. I hope to see him here soon.

Im not saying I think ASU would hire him, just listing some other possibilities. Riding Herm's coattails would be a much more likely path.
But he's not just a career offensive analyst. He's got the credentials where nobody would laugh at his application.

No one would laugh at him because he was incredibly successful and has earned that respect but he does not have any coaching credentials (yet) but I am not sure why everyone assumes because he was a great player he would be an instant great O line coach.

He played guard, center, and tackle in his career. That is every position on the line.
And he was great at every level. Add to that his leadership, both on teams and for the union, his multiple All Pro selection, NFL HOF and he will absolutely slay it on the recruiting trail.
Most long-term, legendary status players don't get into coaching. Typically, it is the marginal players that pivot to coaching instead of the NFL.

Its a valid point. People see his leadership, his attitude, outlook on life, the way he talks, etc. coupled with the obvious fact that he knows the game inside and out, and assume he would be able to teach it to and inspire players.
I think its common for guys who have played at elite levels to want to jump into coaching at elite levels without paying their dues and grinding it out at lower levels. And I think that makes it hard for them to break into the coaching ranks unless they have a former coach (Like Mawae does with Herm) that will have faith enough to take them in.
Also there are always questions about how much time/effort a guy like that will put into something when he's already a millionaire and doesn't have to do it, its more of a hobby. Might be why he's an analyst instead of a position coach. More of a part time gig, no recruiting, etc.

He was head of the NFL player's union for several years also. Kevin has his shite together and hopefully will be at LSU soon.

I am in no way saying Mawae won’t be a good coach he just doesn’t have the experience yet.
If LSU needed a DB coach and O hired Ed Reed for the position would you be ok with that?
Are you wanting Mawae to be the coach because he has the coaching chops or because he was a great player and happened to play for LSU. Anyone that wants him to be the coach right now is because of option two. Which is fine if that’s what you think just own it because we simply don’t know if he is a good coach or not yet.

Please get this guy back home to Baton Rouge by any means necessary!
