From The Advocate.
quote:

Kelly and his coaching staff will decide this weekend who will start at QB, but probably won’t make the announcement until Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Kelly feels it’s important to name one now but acknowledges it’s a close call noting to reporters, “If you were voting as a group in here, it might be split in this room,” Kelly said. “It's pretty close. I think you can probably understand why, for us, we're not jumping out there giving you a quarterback because they're both fine quarterbacks and it's that close. But we're going to have to make a decision here in the next few days.”

There remains a possibility that both quarterbacks appear against Florida State. Kelly wants to avoid a two-quarterback system, but he said recently that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Daniels and Nussmeier both got an opportunity to play this season.

TTT's take - Doesn't matter which LSU QB starts, what matters is which one can finish the season.

Naw. Kelly will lean on his staff before making a decision on a starter, especially one this close.

Disagree.

In game prep both Nuss and Daniels will prep like the starter (which you should do with your backup with a slight lean towards the starter week in and week out). Both will be asked to do progressively more difficult, and very specific, things as part of that prep.

They're looking for consistency first and foremost in the things they have done well as well as improvement in the things they haven't.

That consistency is going to be the end-all be-all shortly. They've identified what they can and should be able to do. From an analytical standpoint if it isn't repeatable it didn't happen and could change things.

I think Daniels has the pole position. It's his to lose. But if that consistency evaporates they will think twice.

I like that the defensive coaches, and of course House, will have some input. They will be able to say who gives them the most fits or difficulty. While not the primary factor... it will be considered.

This has long been decided. He's just making it a little more difficult for fsu because they are two very different QBs

That would be selling Nuss short, I think Kelly truly believes that he has two starting QB’s.

Only because it’s about deciding the future domination of the SEC. Will it be Daniels or Nuss who completes the season?

I dont think so (that its selling Nuss short)...I think both QBs are good as well. I just dont think BK would leave something like this hanging around. There are long stretches where the media isnt allowed to film. I wonder if the reps are being really divided there. Just thinking out loud though.

Rick Neuheisal was talking about this on his show last week. Said as a HC you know very soon but want them competitive and thinking they don’t know.

Anyone that thinks a HC doesn’t know a week before a game is crazy

One QB will start, both will play, at least for the next several games. LSU is not getting through all season with just one QB starting, the SEC is too tough for a running QB to make it through a whole season.

He already said that they will prepare one guy as the starter.

Just the same as any team would do. Backup gets less reps in prep.

He’s making it sound like this will be a traditional qb1 qb2 situation. He said that he wouldn’t be surprised if both played this YEAR , not GAME .
To me that’s very telling.
We’re gonna be traditional in our qb approach unless someone isn’t playing well enough to win

If it’s that close then I assume they are comfortable with Daniels making the reads and he has shown he can make all the passes effectively. His speed and mobility would give Daniels the edge imo with everything else being equal. Will be interesting to see if both get reps if it’s a tight game.
