Missing the point entirely. Building the relationships helps give you an edge to KEEP those 4-5 stars here.

You don't take 3 stars for the chance to get 4 stars. Like I said, you can't take all of the 3 stars anyway, so what happens to the relationship when you don't take one?

quote:

You say that 2019 was not won with local 3 star players. Justin Jefferson and Clyde Edwards Helaire say hello.

According to 247, CEH was a 4 star, #10 player in the state, and #6 APB in the nation. LINK

Justin Jefferson was a 3 star primarily because of grades.

2019 was not won with Louisiana 3 stars.

2019 Blue Chip Ratio
1. Ohio State 81%
2. Alabama 80%
3. Georgia 79%
4. LSU 64%

quote:

And, my son played at Catholic and I can tell you that it matters seeing your former teammates and alum playing for the Tigers. Clyde's success at LSU did not hurt with recruiting players like Emery Jones this year.
Again, CEH was a 4 star.
More importantly, did EJ come to LSU because of CEH? No.
Would EJ have come to LSU if CEH had not? Yes.

quote:

On those 4-5 star kids, how many players from Louisiana have contributed to Saban's success at Alabama? The answer is "a lot". Do what it takes to keep those kids here and you strengthen your team and weaken your biggest rival, who also has to be concerned with what is going on in Georgia and Texas because Alabama HAS to recruit those states (and Florida).
So you're saying we need the 4-5 star kids.

How many 3 star players are Saban/Smart/Fisher trying to get from Louisiana?

How many 3 stars are Saban/Smart/Fisher taking anywhere for the chance to get 4 stars?

Per capita Louisiana puts more players in NFL than any other state. Those 3 and 4 stars in the boot are better than those 4 and 5 in other states.

in some cases this is true, not across the board.

Like a TM7

But lets take Florida. they may have 20+ players drafted in a draft while louisiana has 5. They have 5-6* the population.

Well thats still 5+ draftees for the 3 big FL schools. Assuming they stay in state. But all those 5 LA draftees would have to go LSU as well.

Don't underestimate the value in that.

Fair enough, but looking around for a QB who is more than a great athlete against high school competition (i.e., who has a brain) will be key as well.
We look to be ok currently, but the 2025 starting QB needs to be recruited now.

You say this in a way that makes you think it wasn't a priority for O, and if so you are wrong:

4* - Christian Harris
4* - Christopher Allen
4* - Phidarian Mathis

So, you're saying we should recruit 4 stars?

These kind of threads are mostly about feels and little about facts.
Whoa...easy there Francesco.
Fact: SEC College Football fans tend to laugh at the advice of a Virginia football fan regarding player evaluations and National Championships. You know dick.
Fact: The eastern liberal/progressive mantra of "I'm smarter than you so do as I say even though it won't work" don't wash outside of the East/West Coasts and Chicago. It certainly doesn't apply to a state/regional College Football recruiting base. Again - you know dick.
Fact: As has been painfully demonstrated in our Society by your brethren over the last decade, feels is the overriding factor in everyday life and facts be damned. Hell, if you progs can't spin the actual facts to your advantage it's become standard practice to make up new ones!
Feel: Look, this is about football---nobody around here cares one whit what you think. When somebody up there starts winning National Championships, you give us a shout back. If you feel like it.

The goal should be to identify the 4-3*s that really are or have the potential to be 5-4*s. Heck plenty of 5*s year after year prove they didn't deserve that rank through performance on or off the field.

In the transfer portal era you aren't filling and keeping a team full of 5*s since those are less likely to be patient and wait their turn for playing time. 4-3*s are your depth which you want quality from.

By building relationships with schools and coaches by "putting the fence up", you're more likely to correctly identify those underrated players and get guys that make the whole team more successful year after year. It also helps in convincing the occasional 5* to come and keep playing with their teammates/friends.

A great core of assistants to assist the head guy can recruit the great kids who fit the "culture" of a program! Look no farther than the Tigers basketball programs and the baseball program!

Yep, a little bit.
And you sound like an alter. You argue points in the same way as some others.
A disproven "insider" maybe? An all-time record for DV's guy, maybe?

These guys will play hard for their state and be 100% committed to the team. Meanwhile other big programs will be fielding teams full of mercenaries.

Starting now? Because a LOT of LA kids have transferred out over the years.

Yes, if they play like those guys! As someone else mentioned, 4 star guys from Da Boot seem to do well and make it to the League..

These guys will be on the walls in the gyms/locker rooms wearing LSU uniforms. They’ll come back to games and town wearing LSU gear. They’ll have friends and family that are future recruits. It just builds LSU loyalty in every nook and cranny in the state and it can only help.

true dat - we need to keep our homegrown talent wanting to come to LSU first.
