The backstroker was his own stupid fault. That was a separate incident than what tigerswimmer is referring to

@ Mavocato

I'm Fritschers age as we likely know one another or had the same swimming friends

I swam for the Bolts from around 78-84 , got burnt out during my Jr yr of HS and quit swimming all together

my son currently swims for Crawfish Aquatics as it has brought back lots of memories ... including meets at the old Huey P Long pool on LSU campus

LSU needs to do something with that space. Have seen plans for filling it in and creating a quad area. With the new addition to the basketball facility and the coming gymnastics building it will be an eye soar if it stays as it is.

LSU has gone the cheap route in the last few hires. almost forced to until some facility improvements are made. a top, established coach will come to these facilities. period. an no, LA does not produce enough elite swimmers to make LSU competitive in the SEC. The names that were thrown out earlier spanned 20 years. And Ashley Tappin was from Florida, not LA. I know her personally.

While I think Dave is a good coach, he needs to work on his people skills. dude comes across as an arse too many times. He is just dry.

Before you start responding with stupid pictures, no I am not on LSU's staff. Just one guy's humble opinion.

Agreed! I feel as though people think that as soon as a new coach is hired then there will be new recruits lining up at the door. However if a new facility was built it may be a different story. People are always attracted to the new and improved.

Congratulations to Kara for breaking the records. She must be a damn fine swimmer. I will throw out my 2 cents bout the Natatorium and recruiting. I'm sure a new facility would help with recruiting but in the end, swimming is an individual sport. Swimmers come for the coaching. When I kept up with LSU swimming, the coaches were Sam Freas and Eddie Sinnott. There were some great swimmers at LSU who were there for Eddie. Most of them were not Louisiana kids. I don't keep up with LSU swimming anymore but I'm sure if the LSU swimmers like the coach, he will get his fare share of solid swimmers, regardless of where they reside. As for age group swimming in Louisiana, it looks pretty much the same to me. In the mid 1980's, LSU Aquatics had caught up to the Bolts which had long dominated the swimming scene. Crawfish Aquatics looks to be carrying on a strong tradition of Baton Rouge producing good swimmers.

People skills are very important for recruiting even with the best facility in any sport. Recruits really don't want to swim for an arse. Given that our swimming facility is sub par (and that's being nice), people skills are all we can offer a recruit, and Geyer has none, I mean none, zero.

you obviously don't know her well enough, ask her where she went to high school

I bet you she says St. Martin's Episcopal in Metairie

she graduated in 1993 THEN started her collegiate career at FLA and later transferred to Arizona

I've gotta say... I never thought I would see a thread about swimming stay on the front page of the Tiger Rant consistently for a week. Pretty impressive.

Given LSU probably has the worst natatorium in major college swimming, the coaches have done a solid job

Yep, swimming is very underfunded at LSU, but makes Kopcso's accomplishments even more impressive.

I would like to congratulate all the previous posters concerned about the swim program at LSU. I have a feeling that the swim team is now sufficiently fired up for the SEC championship meet scheduled to begin Feb. 17. And if you really want to help the swim team, take a minute to visit the locker rooms at the 'Nat. Horrible would be too kind of a word.

Those times would put her in 28th and 44th in National rankings based on last years NCAA Championship Results.
Any idea on how she ranks against other swimmers in the same age group? At what point do female swimmers normally peak?

Both of my boys swam for Dick Bower and Robbie Fritcher on the Elmwood Sharks team. Robbie was loved by the kids. Coach Bower was a lot tougher back then. He mellowed when he and Barb move to The Woodlands after Katrina.

Age is irrelevant. She is in the big game now. She sits 29th in NCAA right now in 100 Fly. If she drops just one second at NCAA Meet she is back for "A Finals" (top 8). Very possible. She is a very strong swimmer. Keep in mind, the 28 swimmers in front of her are saving their best stuff for NCAA as well. Kara is definitely in the game.

As far as when will she peak? Who knows. Ask 10 coaches and you may get 10 different answers. All I can say is stay tuned. If she drops 2 seconds we could be looking at a National Champion.
