Why do people keep pretending this is a possibility? The 2nd place SEC team isn't going to miss the playoffs.
It could be a very strong possibility. If LSU is tied for 2nd place with one or two other teams, and gets into the CG based on a tiebreaker, then loses in the CG, they could easily get left out. Pundits will say that the other teams (Especially Texas, Bama, or Ole Miss) tied for 2nd with LSU are better than LSU and leave LSU out, especially if LSU gets beat down in the CG.

ok well if A&M only loses to UT...they go to CG over UT more then likely if we win out
UGA also play Tenn, so they both can't win out.
It's why I pointed at the scenario of A&M winning out and us losing to A&M twice (reg season & SECCG). 1-loss UGA would get in over 3-loss LSU without any controversy,

I don’t trust losing another game and still making the CFB playoffs

In 2017 10-2 Auburn entered the SECCG ranked #2 in the CFP polls on the heels of wins over Georgia and Alabama. Auburn lost the SECCG to Georgia and was subsequently left out of the CFP in favor of both Georgia and Alabama...two teams they had beaten. The ONLY reason Auburn didn't reach the CFP is because they were forced to play another game Alabama didn't have to play.
So they were 1-1 against Georgia while losing the more recent game? This was in a 4 team playoff. In which 2 SEC teams max made it, and there were also divisions. Totally different scenario than what we have now. In a 12 team playoff with no divisions, the two teams in the SEC championship game will make the playoff every single year.

Last year Georgia was 12-0, ranked #1 in the CFP going into the SECCG. They lost, and were left out of the CFP in favor of 12-1 Texas. The ONLY reason Georgia didn't make the CFP is because they were force to play an unnecessary conf. championship game against a MUCH tougher opponent than Texas had to play.
It was two teams with the same record and the team that won their conference made the playoff. Idk what to tell you. Again, totally different situation than what we have now.

Last year we went into conf. championship weekend with 12 teams with 2 or fewer losses. 4 of that group would have gotten auto bids. But the rest would have been left to hope to snag one of the 7 at large spots. None with 3 losses.
A 10-3 SEC runner up isn’t getting left out over a a 10-2 Big 12 or ACC team.

Now, lets say LSU loses to an undefeated Texas A&M in the SECCG (again for the sake of the argument), putting it at three total losses and two SEC losses. If it comes down to 3-loss LSU and 1-loss UGA for the final playoff spot, UGA is definitely getting in over LSU.
In that scenario I believe that Texas A&M, UGA, and LSU would all make the playoff.

If we lose one game and win out and then lose in the SECC, you realize we’d have 3 losses, right?
There will be a lot of arguing about a 3 loss team being included for sure.
You realize that I said a 9-3 SEC team right? Meaning that they wouldn’t make the SEC championship game.

Getting to SEC championship game only hurts LSU. With two losses LSU may sneak into playoffs. Losing to Georgia or Texas would eliminate them.

Screw that. Go win the SEC title. And if we lose I don't think the committee will penalize the loser.

I didn’t say they wouldn’t but if Texas has one or two losses they get in before us and prolly tanner too

dude stfu...we are a completely different team since then, when we had 2 new coordinators, a new qb, and new Wrs starting....
Also, USC is losing games yes, but it is bizarre. Every game they have lost they led into the 4th quarter and blew it at the end.

Lose to Texas A & M and fold your tent and go home.

I agree they get in with 1 conference loss.

JUST frickING WIN.
Too many what if’s and a 6 page thread about what could be. Total waste of time and energy. Win your games and get in, lose too many and you don’t. Accept the consequences.

The smart and reasonable thing to do would be to eliminate conf. Championship games because they are completely unnecessary.
HELL no.
I’d much rather have an SEC title than a natty. First, the field top to bottom is better for the SEC than for the nation. Second, I never encounter people from Oregon or Ohio and therefore never have to deal with trash talk from their fans like with conference opponents.
Here’s an idea…if you can’t win a so-called “meaningless” conference title, then you don’t belong in the national title discussion anyway.
Just win the SEC and everything else resolves.
Because the SEC title is anything but meaningless.

I have a hard time believing an SEC team that makes the championship game, gets left out a 12 team playoff.
