If this happens, how pissed off will Dale Brown be?

Gunter deserves something of immortality, but not this.

This is almost as bad as Ole Miss claiming SEC West championships.

Sue Gunter
Gunter completed her career as the third winningest women's basketball coach in NCAA history with an overall record of 708-308 (behind only Jody Conradt and Pat Summitt).

Gunter's LSU record was 442-221, making her the winningest coach in school history.

Dale Brown
“It didn’t look good,” Knight said. “In fact, my assistants had just about given up, and so had I. Then I looked down toward the other bench, and I saw Dale Brown standing there. I knew then that we had a chance.”

Indiana won, 77-76.

Knight said of Brown’s coaching: “To paraphrase Churchill, probably never has so little been done with so much.”

Not in favor of the hyphenated names. Name it something pithy. Sue Gunter deserves something of her own though.

For longevity? She didn’t win anything when it was easy to win.

Agreed. And that is the dilemma you create when you when you start to "name" venues unnecessarily.

Brown and Gunter had nearly the same amount of career wins at LSU. Both are the winningest coaches in school history for their respective sports. Brown took 2 teams to the Final Four. Gunter took one (technically Pokey was the HC in the Final Four, but the season is credited to Gunter). Brown won 4 SEC regular season titles. Gunter won zero.

You could make the argument Brown had a slightly better career than Gunter at LSU. And there is no question Men's Basketball under Brown was probably 50x more popular than WBB under Gunter. But if Brown's name is on the court because of his career accomplishments at LSU, it's really hard to justify not having Gunter's name there for the same reasons. Both programs shared the same "court".

It isn't surprising. Once LSU set the precedent of naming a playing surface for a coach who didn't win a title, there is nothing to prevent the adding of other names to it. It's why the surface shouldn't bear a name in the first place.

I asked it when it was proposed, again when it happened, and now again, who exactly was clamoring for the court to have Brown's name on it? I can't see any justification for it based on his accomplishments. Brown accomplished plenty in his career but nothing to warrant having his name on the court.

She didn’t win anything of significance. Sorry, not impressed with her.
