Keep hearing the pundits make it sound like Bama spent the whole game there.

I've always seen "red zone" defined as the area between the goal line and the twenty yard line.

For mer mortal teams its the 20. But in the minds of most pundits and Bama fans, the 45's will do...

God, you're stupid. The red zone is defined as the 20yd line for everyone, pros and college, except Alabama, where it encompasses the entire field of play, even if Eric Reid has your ball, or ballsack in his hands. On a releated note, a chip shot field goal is 63yd or less.

I don't think the term "red zone" is an official CFB term. It's a term used by the media and fans thus the definition can change without affecting the game. For most fans and media the red zone are inside the 20s. For ESPN and bama the red zone is inside the 40s. That why bama gets in the red zone more than any team in the nation...day gud.

Bama most certainly changed it because Saban said when they got to the red zone, they couldn't finish their drives

Wrong. It's a term that originally began to be used by NFL teams some two decades ago in reference to the area going in from the opponents 20 yardline; the area that professional have a 90% chance of scoring once breached. Eventually the term was picked up by reporters and became a catch phrase for all the talking heads. Alabama, in point of fact, crossed into the red zone only once on November 5th.

I know, the OP was being facetious. At least I read him/her as being crafty, maybe I was wrong, but I doubt it.

I have another question. Since most Gumps are always referring to stats to show how good they are. What is the start line for the Red Zone Defensive Stats? Do they start at the 20 for that are do the use the same imaginary line that the obviously used on Nov. 5th?
