Im not confused as to why they leave early. the money is alluring. However, i think for every Peterson, Brockers, Reid, Mathieu (guys who are succeeding early in their NFL career), there are players who are failing miserably. Whether it because of attitude, behavioral problems, or lack of production, most players fail in the NFL. The average NFL career is something like 3 yrs. So if you're the average NFLer, and retire after 3 yrs, what do you have to fall back on? The athletes who have a good head on their shoulders get a degree, and have a career plan for when after they retire.

I will never question a player leaving early. It is their decision, but i will question whether they have thought about it thoroughly and analyzed the possible scenarios

Too bad there isn't somebody on the Rant who has a friend who is a 15 year pro scout who while getting paid to scout players also loves to give out free advice.

Someone like that should post several times in several threads to make sure everyone knows he has a good friend who is a pro football scout. Although we wouldn't necessarily insist that this good friend scout is up to date n the latest rookie pay scales...

Explain how that is racist.

The thought process is if you are going to get drafted at all to leave early. You have a limited time to make money playing this game and should maximize every year you can get in the NFL.

seriously, you may get the same style of QB with Jennings and Harris. but I don't think it's that big of an issue.

That's the combo I think a lot of fans would like to see emerge over the next few years. I'm excited about what LSU can accomplish with some long-term stability at the OC position, coupled with a more defined approach to what they want from their QBs.

The Crowton, Kragthorpe, Stud, Lee, JJ, Mett gaggle has resulted in a lot of bad offensive football prior to this season.

There's so much B.S. on this site, it's hard to know where to start...but let's go here...colleges are recruiting athletes that don't give a damn about the university...only about the lean green...then after they fail at the next level after an average 3 years, what's left...a broken body and a mind that was not suited for college in the first place...it's all sad...and only personal greed is to blame...and I mean the whole bunch....fans first, administration next, coaches next, and then the hapless athletes...lol...pitiful mess all of it...

Minter already graduated. He was ok in my book for leaving early.

In regards to any Juniors leaving early, none outside some of our offensive weapens should declare early. No one outside of Hill, ODB and Landry has proven themselves.

worry about that in the coming years with Jennings (a mobile guy) and Rettig (a thrower). I'd prefer to have the starter and back-up be cut from the same general mold.

Rettig isn't slow footed and can at least move as good as McCarron/Murray and some theirs. Mett is more like a Tom Brady/Peyton Manning type QB. Big and no mobility what so ever. Difference is that they have almost perfect pocket awareness and top notch O lines. Mett will continue to improve his footwork and pocket awareness if he wants to make t big.

I won't bore you any further because most of this stuff is pretty apparent but hopefully Miles uses the disappointment from last years draft class so far in the NFL as incentive for the underclassmen to stay in school, both for the player and the school.

Jrs are upperclassmen. Just saying.

so LSU only recruits poor guys? give me a break.

Well 75% of pro football players are from a certain demographic. Many have grown up in single parent homes, with food stamps and they need money.

Also Louisiana has one of the highest drop out rates, and a low per capita income. These things do affect a lot of players from the south. We recruit LA and the south heavily. Ergo the majority of our players need money.

what i struggle with is the number of guys that leave early that aren't drafted that high

It's pretty simple... If you are a lock to get drafted and you/your family needs the money: You go pro immediately to avoid injury.
Anyone who says otherwise is a rantard fan who has never been offered a million dollars before.

that was not coming from a racist place. maybe if you watch the espn 30on30 about the poverty of professional football players, it will seem racist, but these are facts. back in the 80s I spent a couple of years as an agent's front man and pro scout in ca. you are right that it happens more amongst minorities, but this is not a racist fact, just a fact.

Agreed!! People just don't want truth these days. It is more acceptable in certain demographics to have multiple kids in your teens and early 20's and not be married. This leads to a cycle of poverty in MOST cases. The players that have the talent will take the money 90% of the time to help their families. This will not change

Here's my thoughts on leaving early.

If I were a D1 Football player, much less a football player for LSU, I'd want to get out every year of that as I can. I love football. I loved playing football. Why leave early and have a chance of never playing football again? Even if I was a redshirt Junior I would want another year. Especially at LSU.

That's just me though.

I'd be the same way but I was an average high school football player and not bashing you but most likely you were average or a little better than average. Our dream would be to play at LSU.

These guys are freaks of nature/ guys with 1 in a million athletic gifts they have dreamed of playing pro football since they were a kid. It is very logical for them to take the money.

so what would you do to effect a change for the better? big time college football is the minor leagues of the nfl. at least the kids have 3 years of exposure to college, discipline and other good things. i'm not disagreeing with you and i have my own ideas but what do you suggest?

predictable response from you.

you really have no idea what you are talking about. you know nothing about the inner workings of the LSU football team; nothing. your posts over time prove that. i really don't even know why you follow LSU.
