Feels like another Russell Sheppard where they can't find him a position

Shepard had a position at LSU (and a long NFL career as well at the same position), it just wasn't the position the Rant wanted him to play.

What was LSUs biggest offensive weakness last year. Redzone and short yardage offense. Having a QB that has the threat of hitting the home run with his legs is vital in those situations. Hell just having a competent runner is great in those situations. Johnson is going to have a big impact on this offense.

Hopefully we will be so good in the redzone it doesn't come to needing that, but at least we have another wrinkle if we need it

ladies and gentlemen this is a masterpiece in ranting. let's remember this is the guy with the highest win percentage in the sec out of all the active coaches.

this is how jay Johnson got talked about after last year .

fricking idiots

This is a masterpiece in lying. Brain Kelly does not have the highest winning percentage in the SEC of all the active coaches no matter which way you slice it. Kirby has him beat hands down

You are one of the people that has talked shite about Jay Johnson, even this year so STFU with that shite.

Yes, yes you are a fricking idiot.

It’s simple math. Defenses don’t have to worry about covering deep when you get closer to the endzone. This allows them to use an extra hat in the run game. This makes it really hard to run the ball in the scoring area with traditional means. For example if I have 6 players blocking but the defense is using 7 guys in the run fit then it’s going to be really hard to run the ball. Offenses have to find a way to equate the numbers so they do that by not blocking a particular player and reading them. Nuss not really being a threat to run meant it was hard to equate those numbers. Having a capable QB with legs in those situations make it’s much easier to punch the ball in the endzone or get that 4th and short. Using Johnson allows us to add a nice subset of plays to attack defenses.

Zone read
Power Read
The RPO flat route we used so well with Jayden
Dart Read

All we could really do last year was zone read and it wasn’t as effective bc teams didn’t fear Nuss.

So just bc you don’t understand how football works doesn’t mean Johnson playing some QB isn’t a big deal for this team.

Such an amazing athlete he is going to play in nfl. I don’t no what position he is going to settle in. But he is powerful and has speed. RB, QB, WR, DB he can do it all just wish we got him bought in on a position and let him perfect it.

I really think he can have a shot at QB in a few years, and definitely can become a serious option style QB in wildcat. Football like all things end and flows, in 10 years whose to say wing t, veer, wishbone, triple option and attacking running spread doesn’t come back… maybe lsu brings it back. Which I do see teams going to go back to power football in some semblance some time soon.

Yep, apparently FINALLY LSU is going to utilize a QB wildcat package which should have been implemented last season since LSU has trouble scoring in the red zone. Nussmeier continues to refuse to run when wide open fields are in front of him. LSU would have scored a couple of TDs last season on naked bootlegs inside the 5 because the defenses totally ignored Nussmeier taking off and running. Also, Johnson could have a few carries simply as a RB in the backfield. But to ignore his rare ability as a potential wildcat QB AGAIN would tell me Sloan is NOT a good OC. This isn't even an opinion...it would be a FACT!

I have zero expectations for him. He’ll play against the sisters of the poor but will have no impact on the games that matter.

And how does Van Buren being on the roster now impact Johnson's prospects as a QB?

LSU's 2026 starting QB is not on this roster. Every LSU podcast like Moscona has said this as well.

LSU is preparing to showcase a revamped run game in 2025 after the Tigers were inconsistent last fall. Brian Kelly tabbed former Florida State OC Alex Atkins to serve as the run game coordinator. In Tallahassee, Atkins was the architect of explosive rushing attacks with quarterback Jordan Travis. Perhaps he can do the same with Johnson at LSU.
