The one thing Myles Brennan HAS TO IMPROVE on to be more like Joe Burrow:

Interesting Knowledge! I want Myles to be Myles not Joe!

Great breakdown of one play. He had a guy wide open across the middle and could have hit mcmath for the deep ball

It’s his first game. Things moving real fast for him right now. It’ll slow down and he’ll make plays

There is not a QB film room in D1 football that focuses on breaking down one play like this.

I've had my time like most to calm down on MB. Hes not JB. No one will be.

Lets see how he progresses during the season. Honestly, I tilt the blame toward the coaching.

I think his reason for showing this is a critical formation that LSU excelled at last season. People keep saying he doesn't need to be JB, but I still feel he should excel here..

I don't think it's asking that much of Brennan to be better on this empty protection formation.

I didn't like Jordan Rodgers at the beginning of last season, because I disagreed with him. However, I can still respect his breakdown here.

Exactly. The keys & read are very simple for a QB in this formation vs the defensive alignment. Some fans want to make it so complicated yet it's not which is why Brennan's mistakes were that much disappointing.

Two things here. The play Rodgers' broke down there is a simple concept that Myles should have mastered already in film study & game prep. Just executing the basic concept of the play produces either a big play downfield even/or a completion to move the chains. Brennan got neither there.

The second thing is, Rodgers went even further in his breakdown of the play to explain how Burrow's intelligence made him great. Burrow not only mastered the simple concept of the formation but he could take it further by sliding protections & moving LBs based off his presnap reads so that he could either create better throwing lanes for himself or more room for his receivers to get more YAC.

That's what made Burrow & this offense so great last year yet we don't need Brennan to be big brained & advanced like Burrow. If Brennan simply knows what his reads are based off what the defense is showing presnap then he would do just fine.

Brilliant, just utterly brilliant. You explained it perfectly. Many parts of this offense are structured around those tiny but extremely effective manipulations. Burrow became elite at not only getting LBs to move but opposing safeties as well. Much better than even Tua, with his safety stare down passes only to throw to the opposite side of the field (very similar to Russell Wilson).

The offense should be partially slimmed down for him until he understands all of the basic concepts. The analyst and shadow staff could certainly script a gameplan that just focuses on simple reads. There's no shame there, these plays have shown to be extremely effective. Take Leach's offense for example it is very basic but deadly, not just against us, but also while he was at Washington State.

I know people hate to accept it, but most QBs know exactly who or where they are going to throw the ball to before the snap. That's okay in these situations because our plays set up nicely for him to hit his anticipated receiver if he does the proper reads presnap, but always gives him a bailout or decent 2nd option. He will know rather quickly if his 1st option is not viable from a few different giveaways given by the defensive alignment. The beauty is that Brennan's arm should allow him to fit the ball in tighter windows much faster, so he needs far less space than Burrow may have needed last season on certain throws. His arm strength could work to maximize this offense.

Once Brennan actually looks comfortable enough to go through his progressions and check his receivers quickly during a play like an NFL QB would is when we should open up the whole playbook and expand it. Until then just make it fair and simple, he is a quick learner, but just needs to take the game over. We need to control the game with our offense, it literally puts us in the driver's seat when we pick apart teams methodically.

Watching that play breakdown makes me have faith in the offensive play callers. I hope they don’t simplify it/reduce routes to increase protection but instead give Brennan more reps to see what they see and execute.

I just want him not to suck.

Unfortunately, I think I'm asking WAY too much.

Everyone thinks it’s just an experience issue with Brennan but when you actually watch him play it’s like he doesn’t understand what he has to do on some plays. He doesn’t understand his progression, his hot route, the protection scheme, etc. That comes through preparation and if anyone remembers from a year ago or more, Myles has been hit hard behind the scenes for his lack of work in the film room.

4th year player! Fails to make SIMPLE reads. Cant anticipate the WR. Can’t over come his own FEAR. Obviously doesn’t prepare well enough. It will be more of the same against Vandy.
