The team takes the attitude of their coach.

Would it matter?

Joe "I am the search" Alleva will be making the hire.

I get that, but this is also overused. They aren't middle schoolers. Giving up 90+ in 4 out of 5 games is 100% effort. We've always been bad on defense, but this team is taking it to a new level. They have absolutely no desire to do anything

What are you shaking your head at? Ypure still on this crazy stance that the process in which a 55 year old career dline coach was hired was a good thing?
I hope O has the best tenure in lsu history but even you should be able to see he was no where near the most qualified candidate.

When one or two students fail, look to those students. When the entire class fails, look to the teacher.

Here's the thing in this case. Multiple players have come and gone through this program througout the 5 years of the Jones era. Throughout this time , you have seen signs of a lack of urgency to put forth effort when the team needed to win games to make the tournament in critical times.

Let's start with the 2013-2014 season since this the 1st year legit talent was infused into the program.

LSU comes off of a big win at home against Kentucky to put them at 13-6. They go on to lose 3 of the next 5, and I can distinctly remember in 2 of those 3 losses the team put the opponent at the foul line over and over again. The team goes on to go 5-5 the rest of the way in that season.

2014-2015
Even though this team got to the tournament, there were moments when they found ways to lose games to teams they shouldn't (and some of these games featured some of the most lifeless efforts):

Miss. St.
Tennessee
Mizzou
Auburn (twice)

If Keith Hornsby does not make that game winning shot at Arkansas, this team is likely not getting into the tournament. It was like they did not realize what was on the line at times once they hit conference play.

2015-2016

Not much needs to be said about this one. This season was a simply a culmination of everything that has been wrong during the Jones era. Ever since the loss to Bama, it has been an absolute trainwreck the rest of the way.

Those are years where even when the talent was there, the teams under the watch of ole Johnny either failed to get it done, or were not lazy enough to not get it done. Now that you don't quite have the talent that you used to in the prior years, all of those issues you see regarding the effort, and overall schematics are further exposed.

Why do you all still watch?

I watch, pay attention to, get updates on my phone for all LSU sports. Are you truly a supporter of LSU if you don't care and don't watch and don't root for your team? And in doing so, you root for success. Right now, our coach is not putting our team in position to have success. We are damn near last in the country in assists. That stat right there tells me this is not a team, but a bunch of guys that just want to get there's. We also play zero defense, which requires effort. The young team that we have is not putting out the effort, and not running any noticeable plays or making changes to score against the other teams defense. That's all on coaching. We sure the hell don't have the talent, especially down low, to be better than anyone we play from here on out. So JJ better somehow pulls some offensive sets out his arse or play full court press the rest of the way, because his team has given up on both ends of the court.

I don't blame the players, who would want to play for a joke of a coach like this

Because I still dream the same feeling and proud I had when watching in person the 1986 Final Four Tigers team of Ricky Blanton, Don Redden, John Williams, Anthony Wilson, Nikita Wilson, Derrick Taylor, Bernard Woodside, Oliver Brown, Jose Vargas, Neboisha Bukumirovich, Zoran Jovanovich and the rest shocked the country playing with all their hearts... that's why!!! (yes , I'm an old fan but still love LSU and LSU Sports)

This team does not play at a competitive level. Jones has to be dismissed. The message has to be that LSU cannot tollerate being uncompetitive in a major sport. It does not matter that there is not a suitable assistant. The season is what it is.

90% of this is on CJJ...but the players HAVE to shoulder blame, too. They literally don't give a shite. Anyone who thinks this team is actually trying is high as a kite. You have to fire CJJ so you can start building the program back up, but the players show little to no effort, either.

I agree with all of this Butt, but he has tried different approaches over the last couple of seasons and nothing is working. Why you ask? Because he has lost this team. Every player on this team has at some point played the game with great effort, but none of them are playing with great effort consistently for JJ. We don't have a Keith Hornsby on this team.......he was a self motivator.

The only fix for this team is a change in leadership.

Start benching players that give little effort. I don't care if you have to start pulling guys from the rec center or whatnot. A kid with less skill but more effort will start kicking the arse of the player with more skill and less effort. Play the walk-ons, and whoever else you have.
