Joe Burrow will not try to force his way onto his preferred team, if he even has one.

Burrow, the LSU quarterback who’s the odds-on favorite to go first overall in April’s NFL draft, says he’s happy to play for any team that wants him.

“Whoever wants to pay me money to play the game of football, I’ll play for ’em, it doesn’t matter to me,” Burrow told Josh Wingrove of Bloomberg News.

Burrow will not, in other words, pull an Eli Manning or John Elway-style move and refuse to play for a team that drafts him first overall, if that’s not the place he wants to go.

The Bengals are widely viewed as likely to draft Burrow with the first overall pick, but there’s still plenty of time for some other team (such as the Dolphins, who own three first-round picks) to blow the Bengals away with an offer to move up.

Whatever team ends up calling Burrow on draft night, he’ll gladly play for.

I respect the hell out of Burrow for saying this or anyone else that feels the same way. I think the NFL needs a policy that states if you are drafted in the first round and refuse to play for that team then you sit out a year and go back into the draft the next year. If you are drafted in the first round the next year then the team that drafts you owe the original drafting team a 2nd round pick. Just my thoughts.

They pretty much do. If the team drafts you and you refuse to play for that team you can’t play for anyone else. They have your rights.

Carson Palmer wanted out of Cincinnati and they wouldn’t let him out and so he essentially sat for two years until he finally made his way to Arizona.

Why should that second team be punished for something they had nothing to do with?

I've heard more crap about boycotting the #1 pick this year than I've ever heard and it's weird because Joe is from Ohio. It's like people are wishcasting it.

Actually, only in pro sports does it work that way. Virtually everywhere else in society, companies don't have the right to control when/where you work.

You know I luv Joe’s bravado, but sometimes testosterone can lead you to making bad decisions. I sure hope this isn’t one of those times!!! But sadly I think it will be. Joe has to understand that this is a business decision and he needs to make the best decision for himself not a certain team.

He should look at it more like he did when transferring, Joe didn’t take the low hanging fruit of university of Cincinnati. No he wanted to play for and win a national title that is why he chose LSU, because we have and we had a team he could do that with.

Cincy has never won a Super Bowl and they have proven to not be able to keep talent in the city. I hope he has a change of heart or at least that Miami or Carolina go after him hard and make Cincy an offer they can’t refuse.

It makes it harder for the player to not sign with his original team which is the whole purpose of that posters comments! It makes it more difficult for the player the following year because a team has to give up a first rounder twice for the same guy, makes it much less likely you will go in the first round and since rookie contracts are controlled meaning not only will you miss out on $6mil for one year, you miss out on most of that the following years going forward. Makes a big hit to the finances to not go with the team who picked you the first time.

What are you people talking about? He has no decision to make. If he has a problem with that he needs to file a complaint with the players union that agreed to the contract with the NFL and team owners.

At this point I’m just praying another team with a better o-line is able to trade with Cincy for the first pick. If Cincy was lead by anyone other than Mike Brown, I’d feel a lot better about Joe going there, but it’s like they think drafting a franchise QB is gonna fix everything while they ignore that their O-line was ranked 30th out of 32 teams.

I was watching Jimmy Burrow being asked about watching his son play in the NFL so close to home. He stated that they could be in the Bengal's stadium within about 3.5 hrs. Then he said however a lot can happen between now and the draft. He didn't elaborate any further. Joe will be a wealthy young man wherever he ends up but...damn Cincy that wretched organization.
