They group up hating Saban.../shrug. I've seen worse from adults in Louisiana tbh...Ya know..like hating on our own team endlessly.

I know, right? Could you imagine how quiet the Superdome would be at Saints games without their student section making noise?

That is a terrible comparison.

The students are the life force of LSU football games. They start the chants, they generate the noise, etc.

Not to mention that LSU players are students too.

Hahahahaha. Hint: It was the students.

Solution: Suspend the student section for a rent-a-win non-conference game for the next offense.

For a second offense suspend the student section for an SEC game. Let all those seats sit empty.

Go ahead and suspend the students for STTDB too. Really, can't the students be more creative without vulgarities? Not everyone likes to hear that stuff.

I've heard the F word being yelled by students as a group at Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Georgia. Its not just LSU, but that doesn't excuse LSU either.

Did LSU issue an apology to Steve Spurrier when the students did the "F you Spurrier" chant?

What about all the t-shirts being sold around the stadium after games with the F word on them?

Wow. I did not know this.

Ohio State has the largest student ticket # in the country with 30,000 student tickets.

They split them up into 2 sections on each side of the stadium.

Not sure what that guy was talking about

Uh ... you ARE aware that the student section is general admission seating, right?

I'm not crazy about chanting "frick you, Saban." It's a bit infantile. But I'm tired of the students getting shite on and blamed for every perceived wrong and whine.

Students are the REAL paying customers of this university. Without them, there would not be a university and no athletic program to take precedence over everything else. Students are already patted down like criminals upon entrance to the stadium, and treated like they are an inconvenience, when the truth is, they are the reason LSU football exists.

Tiger Stadium belongs to the students a helluva lot more than it belongs to most of the sidewalk, Walmart LSU fans on this board.

And believe me, CBS WILL be back and LSU will NOT be kicked out of the SEC over student chants.

Oh ... a sidenote regarding the PA and "stay off the field" ...

Anybody remember while students were on the field after the Ole Miss game how the PA announcer kept saying: "You need to leave NOW!" as if students making memories was some sort of big inconvenience?

What was unspoken to me was: "We don't have any more commercials to shove in your face, so leave."

I really think sometimes we ought to drop all pretense, sever affiliation of big-time football with colleges, and just make them NFL farm clubs ... the Baton Rouge Tigers.

Then Joe Alleva can play corporate stooge without worrying about playing school principal.

While it is a classless thing to do, I'm sure Saban gets that everywhere he goes. By the way, fans are pretty brutal to Coach Miles on the road as well. It goes with the territory, Joe.

Thank you for this post, you put it very well.

I'm no longer a student at the university, but I agree completely--LSU football should be about the student experience. It's an extracurricular activity. Instead, it's run completely as a business and the students are an afterthought, with the players and band who contribute to this business's show are simply milked for money.

frick you, you sanctimonious hypocrite fricking frick. That's not "fricking trash", those are LSU students and it IS their right to attend those football games, and saying a "bad word" out-loud does not rescind that right. Discovering the power of protest and non-conformity is part of the process of attending college and growing up...

Personally, I would wish that their passion extended further than football to politics and society's problems, but hey, at least they're not apathetic about EVERYTHING; they expressed their feelings loudly and effectively and on their own terms. I'm not wringing my hands over language; vulgarities abound in football; nor am I worried about offending any visitors, because you know, frick Saban.

Why do people have such difficulty with this? He said, "built to be able to beat a team like LSU."

That's not new! That's the way he built LSU!

I'm pretty sure all of the Michigan State students were on Gameday chanting profanity at Saban when he did his interview. Saban is well known for being an a**hole! It's not just LSU that thinks this...

I'm sorry, but Joe Alleva can go get fricked.

While I don't have an opinion on the chant, it definitely did not merit a stupid letter from the AD. Why does he concern himself with shite like this? You know, perhaps his time could better be spent on things like improving the gameday experience, fixing the traffic problem, fighting scheduling inequities, and not sacrificing getting quality opponents in Tiger Stadium all for $$$ by playing in Houston or Dallas.

Unfortunately, a small minority of people chose to diminish the image of our great university by engaging in a profane chant directed toward Coach (Nick) Saban. We are deeply sorry that such crude behavior occurred in Tiger Stadium, because that is the antithesis of what we represent at LSU.

I'm glad Alleva wrote this; I can't imagine any university with a grain of class not addressing this issue publicly. What astounds me are the many people who support, excuse or dismiss this behavior.

TAF and wealthy alumni are the reason LSU football exists in the high profile form it does now. You little shits are window dressing.

I'm not disagreeing, but students are the foundation of the whole evolution from what used to be a purely "college" experience, to the corporate monster it is now.

Take away the students and the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.
