but stop with the just win shite. nobody was saying that last year with JJ.
Also, if Lee went 7 straight games without passing for a TD and Mett came in and outperformed him numerous times, you would see a lot more criticism of Lee.
BTW, I may like or dislike when certain players are in the game but I hold my criticism for coaches who are responsible for recruiting and developing good players.

I was at the game and I saw a very nice performance from JL. If his receivers had caught the balls he threw their way, his numbers would have been impressive.
AND, he had a leadership calming presence which has been lacking from the QB position for years at LSU.

I was thinking this very thought as i watched the replay last night, but then again find me a team (besides Baylor) who didnt have a shite load of drops in their 1st game this weekend. Lee made a few damn good throws - that TD pass the Randle was perfect and he would have had another one if Randle wasnt bear-hugged in the endzone. The early drops killed the passing game. You have to look at more than just Lee's stat line to really get a feel for how he played. The only concern i have is the miscommunication between him and Lonergan.

I'm a little concerned about the passing game in general. The last 4 years have been rough as far as passing.
We (me) all blame and praise QB's when the passing game works and when it doesn't. But am I to believe
LSU can't get 200 yards from JJ or JL?
Are our WR's as good as we think? I don't watch plays over and over but sometimes I do. Yes throwing off the back foot happens, sometimes the pass rush forces P. Manning to throw of his back foot. Pass routes broken can account for some passes that look to be the QB's fault if we don't know where the WR should have been.
My problem is many, many other school have passing games that can put uo 200+ YPG and they have very little talent.
I like how Les Miles coaches but even though you want to be a running team he can't be happy over the last 4 years.
I watched JJ in HS 4 games and even though I was surprised LSU wanted him you could see he had some ablity and passed for good yardage then. JL lit up HS with his arm.
QB coach or Passing Coordinator, better QB's, WR's What's the answer?
I'm thinking passing coordinator.

I don't think there was much criticism for JJ after game 1 vs. UNC...probably about the same as for Lee after this game.

i'm convinced this qb controversy will only end when one of these guys graduate. JJ CAN'T PLAY RIGHT NOW-HE IS SUSPENDED! i'm sorry he is suspended. i am on his side as he seems to be a fine young man and he is lsu. since we do not know all of the details, we HAVE TO TRUST MILES. miles is as trustworthy as hc gets. hopefully, people will quit trying to change what THEY CANNOT CHANGE and get to supporting LSU's quarterback.

hypocrisy
This is what it boils down to. Lee has an adequate performance and we win, he played good, did exactly what the coaches asked, and managed the game well.
Jefferson has an adequate game and we win, he's a terrible, selfish player who has pictures of Miles banging a goat.

Talk all you want about the "almost" interceptions, etc. I don't think anyone said he played a great game, starting with Lee himself or Miles. But let's not forget...4 dropped balls and a holding call that wiped out a long completion.

Ok people that continue to not be happy about something with our team on a consistent basis. Oregon's secondary is the strength of their defense. Lee was on the money most of the night. Just have to give young play makers some time. Lots going on that most people over look. Randle got nicked early for example. A few receivers were not on the same page with lee at all. Yes, lee can and will improve. Another weapon like shep will be huge to have back but the experience for young wr should help later in season. Geaux tigers!

gtfo here with the hypocrisy.
yes we won because of the defense and running game.
Lee played well in spots, some perfect throws and some really bad throws. 2 almost where picked off.
I wouldnt call his game spectacular but just steady with some cause for concern.

Agreed. No one is coming here to criticize Lee. It's the people here saying he was great. I'm glad we won and I'm glad he didn't turn it over but don't come and tell me that Lee was great. The same people saying 10/22 for 98 yards and the win is good criticized JJ for the some type of performance. If that type of performance from JJ warrants criticism why is TL any different especially if Lee is the better QB according to the "Lee should have been the starter" crowd.

And without JL saving his arse we are 9-4. That said the coaches had to have some reason for starting JJ. Just glad crowton is out

quote:You are ignorant of LSU's past. LSU fans were saying how much better Jefferson was than Lee after Jefferson threw for 142 yards with 1 TD against Georgia Tech in the feaking Chick-fil-a bowl. Unless a QB is great, LSU will be screaming for the backup. Some of the same fans backing Lee right now would be booing him next week if he had the same performance and LSU lost to Oregon.

A lot of fans will turn on Lee and will be screaming for Mett if Lee starts making too many mistakes or LSU loses a few games.

I don't quite understand the critisms and comparisons between the two kids seeing as to how Jefferson doesn't fit in the picture at this point. For the time being he is history, can't help or hurt us one bit. Might as well be comparing Lee to a 9th grade qb that LSU has its eyes on.
As long as a player, qb or otherwise, is not being detrimental with his play to the team then I think a W is my main concern. Winning by one or one hundred I will go to sleep a happy man.

Agreed.
I think it is fine to be critical of Lee's performance. But that criticism needs to stay within the bounds. I think he played a mediocre game. I'm not crediting him with drops, because a couple of balls were not thrown very well and the receivers made plays. I will credit him with the throw to Beckham that got called back; although a better ball and Beckham is still running.
Lee played OK. It's as simple as that.
We won, 40-27. I'm happy.
Now, a word to those whose criticism is not based on Lee's play but on the omnipresent Lee v. Jefferson divide, here are my thoughts:
1. If you think Lee played great, you are delusional.
2. If you are making the "hey we won that's all that matters" argument and you did not give JJ the credit for the same, you are a hypocrite.
3. If you think Lee sucked, you are delusional.
4. If you are overly critical of him knowing full well that if JJ played a similar game you would be defending him on this Board, you are a hypocrite.
5. If you are being overly critical because you think that if JJ had played this same game, he would be criticized so therefore Lee needs to get the same treatment, you are a hypocritical arse.
Lee played OK. It was the first game. He didn't hurt us. He will need to do better in the future, particularly when we play a defense (e.g., Miss State in 10 days) that won't be as easy to dominate up-front. But he's the QB and nothing is going to change that. So let's support the kid and root on our Tigers.

I agree with you Lee played a good game and the stats would have looked quite different if our receivers wouldnt have dropped passes.I did see some bad throws but all in all he looked good. This JJ shite should be over. He's not on the team anymore so people need to move on. Lee will still make mistakes but name one QB who hasn't in college or pro. The shite this kid has gone through with the so called fans is bullshite and for him to still play as hard as he can for the team shows a lot of heart. The fans need to get behind the kid for once and let him have the chance he derserves.

Fans complaining about JL are just disappointed because he didn't throw an interception.

The model is run the ball, strong d and great special teams. Jl is never going to have good stats in this format. We're like the ravens of college football. Flaco never had big games but they are in the afc championship. We have an nc caliber team if jarrett just manages the game.

The BIG difference between what we saw from Lee and what we saw last year from JJ is this: the vast majority of Lee's throws were catchable.
JJ had a habit of throwing the ball at WRs' feet, wayyyy over their heads or bouncing it to them.
The main problem I saw was WRs not catching balls that they got two hands on. We have 10 days to get that worked out before a tough contest in Starkpatch. Hopefully we will.
If we don't then either Billy G. isn't as good of a WR coach as advertised or our WR talent isn't what we thought it was when we signed them.

Under the pressure he was under, I find it amazing that we won the game as we did, he didn't have interceptions, he hit several receivers in the hands who dropped it and he had poise and managed the game.........DAMN IT......the kid has saved us some last year when JJ couldn't connect on a pass at all and then Les Miles would jerk him out as soon as the ball got within red zone.
LEE stuck with LSU thru all this and now I think we should be gratful to have him right now with JJ gone. GREAT job JARRETT LEE.

Not so concerned with the just win concept. I agree with it. But stop with the Lee was great and awesome crap.
