Damn, I just read at his HS Bio, this guy needs to be on the field. This could be his breakout game since CD is gimpy. Superb athlete.

Yeah, he's special. I'm glad they got him on offense sooner than later.

He's our best RB right now and it isnt that close IMO
Durham has really regressed recently
I really like him on those outside runs

I don’t think Durham has “regressed”. I think he’s genuinely battling an ankle injury and has little faith in his OL to run block. He still pops some insane runs and breaks a good amount of tackles. I do like JJ a lot tho, he’s a natural playmaker with the ball in his hands

Injury or not, the last 2 games he hasnt looked good at all, he just runs into the first pile that happens. The OL is far from great or even good but they have been opening some holes he just isnt running to, again, just running into a pile almost every carry.
they even pointed this out on his excessive cut back/cut up the field too early during the SELA game. He is just panicking and trying to get 1-2 yards instead of following what blocking is opening some lanes to get bigger gains.
He has jsut 3 carries over 10 yards all season long (on 52 attempts) now. Johnson has 2 in just 16 carries by comparison. Berry has 2 in 15 carries as well. Zavion Thomas as a gadget back has broken 3 10+ yard runs on 10 carries. Berry, Johnson and Thomas have 7 10+ yard carries between them on 41 attempts to Durham's 3 on 52 attempts at this point adding it all up.

Like the tv commentators said last game he doesn’t let the play develope.Instead of continuing to run wide to find a gap he cuts back into traffic.Right now he lacks the vision of a good RB.Every thing is not on the OL.

This, Durham the last 2 games is doing exactly what we all complained about Kaleb Jackson doing last season

This game is tailor made for JJ. OM rush defense is ranked in the low 100s..
Get a running game going , we contol TOP, field position and 3rd down conversions. JJ can run ,catch and throw the ball. Give CD a rest and use Jackson to block and dump off passes.

I think his "regression" may be indicative of 1 of 2 things...maybe both.
1. The running game approach is predictable as opposed to early last year when both Sloan and Durham were both "new" to opponents.
2. There is OVER-coaching going on.
RB is the most naturally instinctive of all of the positions. It's why we see more true freshmen RBs have great success relative to other positions. I doubt Durham has suddenly lost those instincts. So if opponents are stopping him with ease now it could be because they know what's coming...or he's trying to be too perfect based upon the coaching rather than trusting the instincts that made him successful last season.
I think as a whole LSU's offense could be suffering from paralysis by analysis. Nuss is obviously an experienced QB with great knowledge of the game. But he may be too worried about trying to get into the perfect play based upon what he's seeing from the defense rather than just running the play as called. He's often at the line making a lot of pre-snap checks. Probably more than most college QBs. When you are doing that it requires the other 10 guys to hear the checks, understand them, and execute. But if one guy misses the check or misinterprets it, the whole play could blow up.
These guys are still just college players. Sometimes trying to make things too advanced could have an opposite effect on success.

Bell is a lot bigger, but it wasn't his size that made him a nightmare - it was his patience running behind the convoy blocking for him before picking the right time to break off and run.
Durham is smaller, but probably a bit faster. He could do a LOT better if he'd just follow his blockers.

Pleas change the subject line. I thought this was a baseball post. As in Jay Johnson.
