There is a middle ground between the sky is falling after every bad AB, loss, run given up, etc. and blind optimism that nothing is wrong and pencil us into Omaha. I see the posters that I agree with here having the same thought going into the SECT and what the goal/strategy was. Certainly you don't try to lose or go 3/20 RISP, but it's not win or the season is over scenario. That is upcoming and why you try to use the SECT as more of a sandbox to get as many players an opportunity and see how they perform heading into the real postseason.

Agree, but more on philosophy than balance.
If he trusted Pearson and Kling more at the plate, they would be in the field. Morgan would be at first. Guidry would have been solid at 2nd for this year. That would be fairly balanced. White should probably be a DH, but is so good at the plate that it is hard to blame Jay for giving him 3rd if that is what it took to get him here. My respect for how good a hitter he is grew steadily. Only watched his HRs before the season, but this guy is a professional hitter.
We have a lot of DHers on the roster to your point. Jay wants too many in the lineup at the same time. We played Joubert, Jones, Travenski and Dugas at same time. It is something that Beloso DHd as much as he did with this roster, but he sure has been good. That made it even harder for Jay to lay off the crack. Ethan Frey looks like he will smash some balls next year and Jay will put him somewhere.
Jay recruited and played the portal great. We came pretty close to getting Waldrup that ended up at Florida. If we closed on him or had 1 less key pitching injury, we would have been a lot more balanced as far as between pitching and hitting. You probably weren't referring to that, but some "what could have been" thinking would have Skenes, Waldrup, Floyd and Taylor as main starters.

You seem to miss the fact that DVHs' strategy worked and they won the game?

He still ended up in Omaha!!

You could prob say Tommy white should not be playing 3B.
Tommy White has been surprisingly decent there. He is not the liability that Berry was last season.
Part of the problem is that the two infielders, recruited from the portal, have not been able to produce at the plate - Merrifield and Nippolt. Also, the two SS recruits we were hoping for signed.
CJJ is obviously improving the roster every season. The pitching injuries were more than should be expected, and with a better break there (Shores or Taylor stays healthy) we are the dominant #1 seed.
I have to admit, though, I long for an infield that sparkles.

This is why you don’t have any credibility. He’s been bad at 3B all year.

I mean this is just not true at all. Berry had a .917 fielding % last year. White is currently at .826. That’s awful.

Not this BS again. You guys act as if coaching doesn't count and the recruits arrive ready to go. What was our record in 2021? 2022? 2023 (to date)? Seems like JJ is doing better with PM's recruits than PM was. What could that possibly mean?

You just used your own logic against yourself with this.
Yes, Mainieri’s guys are better now as Juniors and seniors than they were as freshmen.

Nope. Proves my point. It matters not who recruits them, it matters who coaches them.
