He had a 79% and 78% conf. winning % at Chattanooga and VCU, respectively. Let's take a look at Johnny, 51% conf. winning % while at UNT.

Potential to be very good but there is a weight issue that could derail everything and you have to constantly work to keep it in shape.

You guys must be off your rockers to thing he'll be coaching here with more than Chattanooga talent. Is this guy some super recruiting guru or something. because it's going to take some time to prove LSU is not a black hole for collage BBall talent.
without doing any research at all, I can identify O'Bryant, Martin, Mickey, Simmons, and Quarterman as LSU players who've made an NBA roster in the past 5 years. And at least several more D-League guys. And other solid role players.
We've had, and can get, plenty of talent here. That hasn't been the problem.

All I have to say is John fricking Brady made a final four run with basically Baton Rouge kids alone. Go take a look at the Louisiana kids playing around the nation right now and take a look at the ones we have currently in the NBA. The talent and resources are definitely here, just need someone to piece it all together. We are in a similar situation to LSU football in the 90s.

This, is Aleva's idea of an "Experienced" "Proven Winner"
I agree. But to get those guys LSU was going to have to spend some money. Like in the $3.0 to $3.5 million range. Mizzou paid Cuanzo Martin $3.5 (which is ridiculous!). Illinois paid Underwood $3 million.
I think LSU could have made a strong run at Steve Prohm for not much more than they will (maybe) end up paying Wade. It's disappointing that LSU didn't make a strong push for a proven winner at a power conf. However, if you are going to go mid-major, I'd rather take a swing at Wade (who has done well at a name-brand in VCU) over a 57 year old Kermit Davis.
Home run? No
Solid hire that MAY turn out to be really good? Probably

If we get 4 or 5 of the top 6 Louisiana players each year, we'd be an annual tourny team. That leaves room for elite guys to leave for a blue blood too.
Its a damn shame.

Resources, sure, but instate talent won't be enough to sustain the program long term. At the very minimum we need to recruit regionally.

We could make the NCAA's every damn year if we kept 90% of the best players in state.
There are guys starting all over the country from Louisiana that would help us.
ETA:
In order to become a perennial top 20 team, yes we'd have to recruit regionally at least.

At this point, if the hire ends up being Kermit Davis I am going to have a heart attack
