Fisher was too young and not a lot of experience. LSU wasn't going down that road again.

Fisher wanted to be a HC and was prepared to become UAB's next HC in 2006 when Bama's board of trustee stopped the hiring. He was later hired as coach in waiting at FSU. If I remember correctly, FSU fans weren't thrilled the first few years with him as the offense really struggled.

Without looking at the precise numbers, if Jimbo wins the MNC this season, on the surface, his accomplishments as a head coach would appear to equal Les'.

Les took over a loaded program. Jimbo took over a steaming pile of shite.

No offense to Bobby.

Del Rio had a meeting set up with Skip/committee members but had neglected to inform his current employer, as was set forth in his contract. Therefore he did not make the meeting and Skip would not wait and settled on Miles. He went from Petrino and Del Rio to Miles. The dear of coordinators with no HC experience better disappear cause the reality of luring a sitting head coach away is getting tougher all the time as more money is given to keep coaches at mid level programs. Always wondered by with T. Boone Pickens as an OSU booster that they couldn't keep Miles at OSU?? It was at the time not on the level program wise but still the plan was to pump more money into facilities and make the big jump. Why didn't they poney up to keep him?? That's all history and 9 years later we have 2 SEC and 1 NC to show for it. Some will say that is what we should expect while proclaiming Miles an elite coach of an elite program. Others say that is a disappointment when your main rival has 3 NC working on 4 and 2 (or is it 1?) SEC title during that same period. One thing for sure, like Miles or not he is hear for the next 5 years at least regardless of if he wins 10 games or 5 a year.

I fully expect Les to be here until he decides to retire, when that is who really knows. That being said, would Jimbo be on the short list of replacements and what would it take to get him if there were mutual interest.

Nick actually wanted Jimbo to be considered:

quote:

This comes as outgoing coach Nick Saban was publicly critical of the search for his replacement. Saban believes his assistant coaches, in particular Offensive Coordinator Jimbo Fisher deserve strong consideration to become the new head coach. As a matter of fact, Saban seemed pretty upset that they aren't being considered.

Mike Archer is still the reason why LSU will be hesitant to hire anyone with no prior head coaching experience.

The only publicly announced candidates were: Nutt, Petrino and Del Rio.

The search committee announced that it wanted someone like Saban who had been a HC in one of the "big" conferences who also had experience coaching in the NFL.

Sure along with Saban and Meyer

Too many 0's.

mutual interest

Not a chance. I love LSU, but why would he possibly leave FSU to come to LSU. That is a lateral at best move and he has no real ties to Louisiana that I know of. Sure he coached here once upon a time, but I don't see why that would matter.

FSU is going to end up like Texas after Jimbo’s “Vince Young” wins him a championship

He became the AD at the University of Florida. Do you think he cared if LSU had a good program to compete with Florida? Do you know who his first hire at Florida was? The head coach from Duke, Steve Spurrier.

No. The tiger fans were very critical of Jimbo at the time because of our very vanilla offense. There would have been a massive outcry if he had been hired.

Or until somebody figures out they do not have to renew his contract every year. And can opt to just let it expire.
