dont lump all LSU fans in with some of the people that post here.
Remember.. MANY of these same people are all for purple turf.

Jim: "My goodness Charlie, would you just look at that ? How in the world could they call something like that. Well......My oh my. Can't believe it.

Charlie: Believe it Jim. It was a strike.

Jim: Well...just don't believe it. My goodness..what in the world was that ump thinking ? Tigers in a hole now..need a lot of work.

Charlie: Tigers leading 6 to 0 bottom of the fifth.

Jim: No Charlie, your wrong. The score is tied a two a piece.

Charlie: Dean just hit a three run homer Jim.

Jim: No..naw..that was yesterday charlie.

Charlie: Jim it just happened.

Jim; o.k..ok..but I don't believe it did. But...anyhow..Furniss is on deck.

Charlie: Furniss graduated 13 years ago Jim.

Jim: Let's pause 15 seconds for station Id. on the LSU sports Marineri show. I mean uh..sports show...network.

Haven't read any of this thread but I want to put in a pro-Hawthorne vote. I've enjoyed listening to over the last 25 years.

This.

I laugh when Jim calls routine fly balls like they are about to be home runs, but when the majority of the stadium stands up as if its gone...I can't blame him.

Just for comparison's sake...Jim Nantz messed up 20483204 times during the NCAA Champ Game...and he's supposed to be the cream of the crop.

I've actually never heard hotter than a two dollar pistol, but have often heard hotter than a pistol.

I just listened to him at the end of the game last night. He really was out of line and when Delatte hits that ball he was like "They win"

No response to the actual point of that post I made.
That's because you don't have a point. Ten pages and we're still waiting for some rational, legitimate defense of Hawthorne's competence.

You never really get the full effect of Jim's incompetent calls unless your in the stands watching the game. Then you can see for yourself what a complete fool he is. At football games I usually listen to the LSU broadcast to pick up on penalty calls and find out why the game is stopped etc. The guy in front of me does the same thing. We usually spend half the game laughing at poor old Jim.
If you not at the game you will never realize he just totally messed up the call unless the color guy corrects him.

He does make mistakes, but no one is perfect. I think the people on this site are WAY too critical, but that's just my opinion and I know I'm outnumbered.

Have listened to Jim for 20+ years (and again last night vs. USM) and I'm ok with him. Yea he makes mistakes - but there has to be some forgiveness for real-time announcing.

For those who demand instantaneous perfection in PBP I've got news for you - ain't happening.

Mistakes are far from the biggest problem, at least in baseball which is the only time I listen to him.

So what's the "biggest problem?"
