If we had a half-assed middle of the pack defense that year then Jayden would be a National Champion and we would have unofficially retired his jersey like we have with Burrow.

How the frick is this being down voted!? I underestimated the number of total fricking idiots on here. #5 should be retired, Jayden won the HEISMAN TROPHY and losers on here want to get on their knees for a cornerback who will hopefully be as good as Kevin Toliver II. Give me a fricking break.

I love JD5 and he had one of the best QB seasons of all time for any QB in college, but it's laughable and egotistical for him and his family to make a big deal about this like they are mortally wounded by some player who was promised #5 and was given it under a new coach who was told about the promise. It's within the LSU policy as well for LSU to let someone else wear it. Sorry their feelings are hurt.
Also, Joey B. won an NC to go along with the most lopsided Heisman win in history. So he is a little different than Burrow. And I doubt Burrow would be a bitch about it if someone would wear #9.

They were mutually good for each other. JD was an afterthought when BK recruited him to LSU with his 10 TDs and 10 INTs in 2021.
We paired him with some phenomenal WRs and he had a phenomenal season in his own right bringing LSU another Heisman (and that Bama win at home in 22). Without LSU,, he wouldn't have sniffed a Heisman or got picked where he did. It was a win-win for both.
