Defensive errors, terrible base running etc. It’s Jay Johnson’s MO, like it or not.

EXCEPT until last night his teams defense was top 5 and first in the SEC. So he obviously values it based on the massive improvement t from just last season.

Ill admit their defense has been good, but lets not act like they dont get home cooking by lazare (the scorekeeper) rendering the fielding percentage stat mostly useless. And lets also not act like our corner outfielders, 2nd basemen, and 3rd basemen dont lack range

Watch other games besides LSU. They GIVE tons of hits today I would have never gotten the luxury of it being a hit. Even at the MLB level. How hard a ball is hit is a factor. Thompson fielded .88 or so just last season and was GIFTED many that should have been errors by Morgan and others by the scorekeepers including multiple pop-ups he misplayed.

Dugas has PLENTY of range as does White. Which corner outfielders? Morgan? He has as much as UK, Arky, name a team even that big arse RF from SCe last week lacked range. He made the plays expected of him where Jobert made a great play on a sinking line drive. It happens.

That ground ball Thompson booted the other night that was ruled a hit

I can see why the Jobert play was ruled a hit because you see that, fly balls being lost in the sun, pop ups landing between three infielders, etc scored hits all the time. But Lazare has been terrible for a long time. It’s like he goes overboard trying not to appear as a hometown scorer which causes him to make completely idiotic decisions the other way.

I see it all the time at the MLB and watching other college teams. This is not just an LSU scorekeeper issue. It is a symptom of participation trophy syndrome and fear of calling it what it is to boost the era of their pitcher or diminish that of the visitor.

Ask Arkansas about the one in Omaha for the national championship! Three guys, plenty of room, ooops!

Jay values runs. Have to score to win.

I’d imagine that scoring an average of 10.5 runs a game and have the worst fielding percentage in the conference will get you a lot more wins than averaging 5 runs a game and having the best fielding percentage in the conference

Except Maineri’s baserunning philosophy was dumb as frick. Johnson could get someone thrown out at the plate everyday from now until the end of the cws and wouldn’t scare Pawl

Do people honestly think he wants Jobert starting in right field?

We unexpectedly lost both of our second basemen to the draft, Nippolt and Merrifield have been disappointments, and our starting right fielder, catcher, and now second baseman (who should be in the outfield) are hurt.

You're not going to start Stevenson out there so get that idea out of your head right now. Pearson is marginally better in the outfield, and while he would have made that play, his bat is not exactly working out right now. You don't have anyone else.

This is what happens when you have injuries. Jobert is starting in the outfield out of necessity.

Also, why are we pretending right field isn't anything other than a place you hide your worst defender?

Blaming Jay Johnson for Jobert missing a routine fly ball is just insane

Not saying I wasn’t pissed, but that fly ball was in no way routine.

I was certainly hoping our new pitching coach was going to make serious improvement to our pitching staff. LSU has one pitcher, and he was great before he even met our pitching coach. I see no improvement whatsoever in any of our other pitchers, and I am really surprised and disappointed so far.

Didn’t y’all use to criticize Paul for recruiting 5-8 180 lbs shortstops but were athletic enough to play anywhere even though they could never touch the warning track?

I remember when LSU struggled at the plate and all the losers complained about how they’d do anything if LSU could just hit.

You win by runs scored. Not by strikeouts thrown or grounders fielded.

Errors happen. That one was a doozy. I am more concerned about the injuries.
