Defensive errors, terrible base running etc. It’s Jay Johnson’s MO, like it or not.

You would expect anyone at the collegiate level to catch a fricking fly ball.

Catching a fly ball is not devaluing fielding. Anyone knows how to do it and serviceable high school players do it very well.

Okay with me. We used to criticize Mainieri for doing the opposite.

serviceable hs players? ha! I dropped one fly ball in my entire career, line drive hit on the nose straight at me, I still made a fielder’s choice out of it, that was in Legion ball

Blaming Jay Johnson for Jobert missing a routine fly ball is just insane

and my point is that I’d never dropped one before or after that, and that one wasn’t even an error

Agree with OP. That's CJJ's MO. If you can hit he'll find a place for you. You can hit your way into the lineup; you can't error your way out.

FTR, I'm not excusing Jobert,That was bad. And he misplayed a ball vs Iowa.

Nor am I saying it's a bad approach across a season. It just looks really bad when it happens.

But the far bigger concern is the pitching injuries (Ack, Taylor, Shores, Edwards, and Coleman).

Which is exactly what I was saying. Even serviceable high school outfielders make that play in their sleep.

I played and started left field two years in high school and can honestly say I didn't commmit a single error fielding or throwing. Granted, probably not as many chances in the outfield in HS versus college-level ball. I remember one game when I caught a major league pop-up and thinking afterward I was lucky to catch it Not sure why I'm writing this crap at 5:45 am.
