Not sure if any of you saw this but Jay Johnson said one player (Dylan Crews I imagine) has gotten so much NIL money his dad called to give back the scholarship so it could go to another player. Pretty wild

Yes, it's peanuts but will go a LONG way in improving the roster. All you have to give out is peanuts. Any little bit extra helps.

Only 32 of the 40 can be on scholarships and all the ones on scholarship have to have at least 25 percent. If it’s a guy like Crews he very much may have had enough scholarship come off the books to give two players some scholly money.

title IX hit as I was entering LSU, I was a walk on and at one point it looked like I was going to get offered a pittance, my Dad advised against it because of the restrictions that came with so little assistance, he was right

ETA: Ethan Martin refused a bb scholarship for the same reason, iirc, the only way he could play for LSU was to be able to have a job and contribute to his family

That's incredible. For as high profile and talented as he is, Crews seems like a personable and grounded young man from the interviews I've seen. I imagine that comes from his parents. Good stuff.

The NIL could be a total game changer for baseball. Since scholarships are so limited.

It’s going to hep in recruiting for sure. LSU is one of the few places that you have a chance to get a NIL deal as a baseball player.

How it should be. If nil exceeds cost of tuition, no tuition.

"LSU is one of the few places...": The Hawgs, Bull Dogs, Aggies, Tenn. USCe, mabe the Rebels, will all have NIL money pouring in. UGA, AU, bama, mabe Fla. not so much. UT & OU has the money if their fans step up. This will separate the conference like nothing else. In basketball,UK & mabe the Hawgs will lead the conference in NIL money.

Wow that could actually be a thing, give the scholarship back and get another good player on the team. That would be awesome
