He’s had two good teams spaced out over 6 years but I would think that money would go to someone who has proven to sustain a top program. One that was in good shape already when he took over. I’m a process guy & on the surface that has not happened,

Mulkey mentioned Stephanie Rempe as an integral piece in her coming to BR. Rempe is an Arizona alum. Yes, I get that women's basketball is another animal but it leads me to believe that she would be a big part of the next coaching search.
Also, Jandy (you're welcome) Johnson is sure flipping guys quickly. Like, less than 24 hours quick. Leads me to believe that some conversations with recruits were already taking place.
He had to be a target as soon as the coaching search started, and he quickly jumped when Sully didn't work out and he continued to roll.

Ah so that’s why you like O? Big process guy

Yeah I’ve already seen rempe mentioned as the link for this as well

Fluctuating results does not usually equate to a sound process
He won the league this year but had four straight .500 teams in the pac 12. And was a 10-5 team when Covid set in. Is that not of any concern ? I am really struggling to understand what I am missing. That’s a guy I’ll settle with, not the guy I’m running after to pay big money to

O was like my 5th choice as LSU coach. I knew he would recruit so it would never be that ugly. That’s part of the process, arguably the most important piece . The rest hasn’t been great. My takes on him have always been fair

She may or may not be the initial link. The visit with Casey before regionals may have turned our attention to him. As I've said ad nauseum, I really don't think Casey's visit was a real interview to be the next head coach. I could be wrong. Honestly, I didn't even hear firsthand that he actually set foot in Baton Rouge.

I don’t know why you’re so hung up on pay, it’s pretty irrelevant. Do you feel better about the hire if he’s making 1mil instead of 1.2?
Posted on 6/25/21 at 9:14 pm to BilJ
The salary always tells the story J. Other then that, no, idgaf what coaches are paid

Doesn’t sound like he was according to Brody Miller. Who actually made it sound like Woodward wanted Godwin but may have been overruled by “administrators” (BOS)
Sullivan
Casey
O Connor
Vitello
Godwin
Bianco
Ok so maybe not even 5th after writing it out

Tigercub said godwins interview didnt go well, and he is usually fairly connected

You know I'm not going to keep arguing with you, especially if Brody Miller is your guy.

Was he ever even a candidate?

This is what Brody miller’s source said
quote:
Sources say Woodward liked Godwin and even made a case for him to other LSU administrators this week, but ultimately the job went to Johnson who matched LSU’s desire for a coach who provides both baseball acumen and off-the-field stability.

I really like Cliff but he's never going to ace an interview.

Brody doesn’t typically have any sources especially in baseball and that article read like one of him connecting dots from the message board fodder the last few weeks.
Godwin had fan and former player support, if Scott wanted him then he’d be here.

Who has sourced anything on this search?
You take tigercub & I’ll read between the lines with the beat guy

Regardless of what number he is on your list, you have to give him a raise to get him to lsu, and its not a significant amount more. If you believe vitello was really in the mix, and was offered before johnson, then you also believe vitello was offered over 2 mil per year, which is in another stratosphere

You're right on, mostly. I could see admins turning their nose up at Godwin. Lester's list makes it seem like Godwin and Johnson were back up plans, though. I just don't think that was the case.
